Hi, I have done the factory reset. So, problem still persists
03-15-2025 09:27 PM
as someone who factory reset their device when it stopped working thinking it was a local issue rather than a google issue, I was initially unable to make the device (chromecast audio) rejoin Google Home - on my GS24 it failed to connect entirely, and iPad it connected initially and was able to join my wifi network but couldnt complete the join into Google Home. after I read it was a certificate expiry issue and that setting your phone to pre-March 9th prior to trying to add the device was rumored to work, I tried that and can confirm it does work. Set my phone manually to March 8th, went into Google Home and added it as per the normal steps. The device was able to rejoin my Google Home, and shortly after rejoining appeared to download an update and reset itself. Changed my phone back to the normal date/time and just cast music to it successfully.

"Was lange hält, bringt kein Geld!"
MFG beeilt euch bitte endlich etwas!!!

Poor communication should have sent out mass email or warning on Google homepage not to reset as its one of the things we're told to do when devices aren't working, yes my chromecast ultra still not working
03-15-2025 11:04 PM
I performed a factory reset per the help instructions before the original posting was up and am still unable to reconnect.
03-15-2025 11:06 PM
It's ridiculous that the solution relies upon not resetting your device when LITERALLY EVERY GOOGLE HELP ARTICLE TELLS YOU TO DO THAT. When can we expect a fix that lets us un-brick our devices that YOU broke?
03-15-2025 11:06 PM
Ready and waiting for this fix thanks
03-15-2025 11:08 PM
I am receiving a message on the Home App that "We couldn't authenticate your chrome cast" please contact support.

Hi, it has now been several days and I still can't use my chromecast. When will the fix come for those that completed a factory reset when trying to troubleshoot??
03-16-2025 12:12 AM
I can't stream. Plz sort this out plz
03-16-2025 12:16 AM - edited 03-16-2025 12:17 AM
I came back to tell you that I did the factory reset and was waiting for the update which until today didn't come so I thought 🤔 hmm... let's rol back the time on the phone, disable auto time updates in settings > system > time. Set it sometime before March 2025. After that I was able to set up new device with the latest update.
Enjoy the streaming once again but the fact that big tech basically have a kill switch embeded in their devices we bought and own, gives me considerations about my future purchases from any big tech not just Google
03-16-2025 12:29 AM
I can confirm this works
03-16-2025 12:20 AM
Hi Team, can we know an update on the fix steps for the reset devices?
03-16-2025 12:31 AM
Repost from @johnnyzero2
For all the people who performed a factory reset during their initial troubleshooting, this procedure will allow you to reconnect your Chromecast to your Wi-Fi network, so that it can receive the firmware update fix that Google started rolling out on 3/13.
1) Temporarily set the date on your smartphone (or tablet) to March 7, 2025 or earlier. If you don't know how to do that, see below.*
2) Use the Google Home app to re-setup your Chromecast by adding it as a new device (+). You still won't be able to cast, and the device will be grayed out in the Home app, but that's ok. Most importantly, it'll now be reconnected to your Wi-Fi network so that it can receive the firmware update fix.
3) Change your phone's date/time setting back to Auto now.
4) Sit back and wait for the firmware update from Google to be installed. This should restore your Chromecast to full functionality.
Note: Supposedly it's being done as a "phased rollout", so it could take a while for the firmware update to hit your Chromecast. Also, some have reported that power-cycling your Chromecast (unplug/re-plug the power cable) will sort of "provoke" the firmware update to be installed. Patience.
*How to change your phone's date/time settings:
For iPhone/iPad: go to Settings, General, Date & Time. Disable "Auto" and manually set the date to March 7, 2025 or earlier.
For most Android phones/tablets: Settings, General Management, Date and Time. Disable "Auto" and manually set the date to March 7, 2025 or earlier.
**Google REALLY should pin this information to the top of this page.**
