Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Hello. Thank you for supporting this issue. Unfortunately I cannot receive the update/version of Google Home app for my Android in Germany. It seems like Version 3.30.1.5 still is the latest available in the via Play Store?

How do I download 3.30.1.6? Play store downloads 3.30.1.5, which is what I already had

I talk to Google support yesterday they told me if you reset your Chromecast and have android phone you wont be able to fix the issue from android phone if you are outside USA. Google Home application update (3.30.1.6) for android is only available in US region but all iPhone get the fixed version of Google Home worldwide. i am based in New Zealand. Now you have two options.

1)  use any Iphone and install Google Home application and enable bluetooth and use Google Home to setup Chromecast and it will identify Chromecast device and help to connect it with home internet. As soon as Chromecast connected with internet, updated patch will be push and installed in Chromecast by Google and it will be work as it should .

2) second method if you have andriod phone, installed any VPN proxy application and connect with USA proxy and install Google Home  application version (3.30.1.6) from there . I personally did not test this option since option # 1 work for me perfectly.

Hope everyone should be able to use option# 1.

Option 3: change the date on your android phone to March 8 and the Chromecast will update. Then change the date back to automatic time and date. This worked for me many other non American Android users.

Can you please confirm if this applies to all Chromecast devices. I have a nest mini v1, Nest audio, Chromecast v1 and Chromecast audio. 

Do I need to do anything or will the updates push through automatically?

How do i update my google home app to The latest version when there is just the same old one on playstore?! 

I downloaded Google Home on an iphone and it worked a charm.

To the good folks at Google, thank you for your prompt fix of my once bricked and now operating Chromecast Audio dongle. You've made our family very happy. It is such an awesome wee puck that has performed admirably over the years. I guess an update that would enable gapless play is out of the question ;).

Buenos días ,no existe la actualización de la versión 3.30.16 en play store,he seguido todos los pasos y ninguna me funciona,espero que me contestéis,ya que es un fastidio,podríais a ver avisados y decir que se queda obsoleto,así ya para la próxima compra no compraré nadie de Google

Followed your instructions no Wi-Fi connection, I Did reboot still no Wi-Fi connection, the Wi-Fi connection symbol comes on then fades away,  please advise on this very annoying issue

Hi guys, I have a Chromecast Ultra. I am in the process of migrating all my WiFi devices over from an old wiFi network to a new WiFi network (both WiFi networks still running now). 2 days ago I "forget network" my Chromcast Ultra to the old wiFi network. At that time I was not aware there was an issue as explained in this thread. I reset by Chromecast ultra at that time in an effort to connect it to my new WiFi network. Sometimes in the Google Home app I am able to detect the reset Chromecast Ultra, however when I try to connect it keeps coming up saying connection failed and to check my iPhone privacy settings to ensure Local Network is enabled. This setting is enabled in my iPhone settings. I have upgraded my Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.106) and am still receiving the failed to connect error message. Not sure what to do next. I have reset the Chromecast multiple times as well as powered off/on, together with changing WiFi networks and switching WiFi and Bluetooth off/on. Nothing has worked.

Hello, 

I did factory reset but the fix (3/17/25) isn't working for me. App is updated to 3.30.1.6 (Android) but get a new error message when setting the devices back up.

I’ve similar problem only it’s from iOS , says connected the. Saying can’t connect via phone iphone WiFi broadband(home) to chrome cast ?

Sorry but I don't understand what to do in case of performing a factory reset. I have a chroma cast 2nd generation and the link takes me to normal settings.

I'm still seeing "We couldn't authenticate your Chromecast" when I try to add my device to Google Home. This is getting to be real frustrating.

I got the same problem! I mean this **bleep** wasnt cheap either so hopefully they can fix this,

When do you expect to roll out the updates in Denmark? 

I have 2 Chromecasts Gen 2: 1 Factory reset, 1 Not. None of your fixes works yet, and there are no Google Home updates available yet.

Hi - I reset my device to factory settings to try and fix the issue before I rec'd your later comms - I now cannot reset the device - i get to stage where the device connect to the wifi then it give me the message - "something went wrong, make sure you've enabled local network access in my iphone". The local network settings are set correctly. Please can you help me to re-establish my chromecast device to allow me to stream/cast again - this is all proving to be very frustrating!! 24 hours passed.

And still no sound on my Chromecast with Google TV.

 

Are you ******* kidding with us?

More than a week without being able to use my Chromecast.

Where do we can pursue legal actions against this nonsense? Or make a formal complaint?

Thankyou Google team for working so hard to fix this problem. Some people might say it should be done within a day without realising the time it takes to fix these kids of problems. I was one who factory reset my device through troubleshooting. Waiting an extra 2 days (also being in Australia roll outs were one day late since were in the future) 😂 This **bleep**ing sucked!!!! And do better for the future - but thankyou for prioritizing and fixing when you could have money grabbed which would have made half the world hate you.

Can you send me a link to have the latest version of the app with old IOS?

When will the app vesrion 3.30.1.6 be avilable at the app store ?

Google Home app version is still att previous version 3.30.1.5 in the Play Store

This unfortunately still does not resolve the issue.

I have a Google Pixel 8 and the latest version of Google home is 3.30.1.5 - there is no option to update the Google home at to the newer version you mentioned.

What else can be done to restore the Chromecasts functionality
