If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.
If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Same problem, Chromecast audios stop working altogether. Have the whole house tied into it with google hubs. This will be th reason to ditch the whole google home. No use now

Mine has suffered exactly the same. Not only one Chromecast, but TWO.
The other Chromecast is working ok.
I reset my wifi, restore factory settings on Chromecast and the WiFi modem. Changed password, reinstall the Home app.
NOTHING HAS WORKED.

Same here - my Chromecast Audio has stopped working. Done Factory reset, and all I get now is "we couldnt authenticate your device - contact support". So its affecting THOUSANDS of people - but no official word of what is going on?

For those who are still looking for an answer to the chromecast device problem.
Google knows about the problem. Got to do with a certificate that ended on 9 march.
They are looking for a fix.
If you did a factory reset... you can fix that. Atleast, it worked for me.
I set my android telephone date on an earlier date and installed chromecast. BUT ... it still doesn't work. So we have to wait with a lot of patience 😉

Same issue with 2nd gen Chromecast. No problem with 3rd generation. Software and firmware up to date. Reset had no effect. It worked fine yesterday. Discovered about 8vam PDT

A Catalunya passa el mateix des de ahir.
Si heu fet reset hi ha una solució per reinstal·lar Crhomecast (Encara que no funcionarà fins que Google ho repari):
Canvieu manualment la data del vostre smartphone, posar una data antiga, per exemple tres dies abans d'avui, així podreu tornar a configurar Chromecast des de Home.
Despres recordeu de posar la data automàtica en el vostre smartphone.

Même problème en France.
Après une réinitialisation d'usine impossible de se connecter.
Après modification de la date du téléphone au 1 mars. J'ai pu le faire remonter dans Google home.
Mais il est toujours hors connexion.
Et je ne peux pas non plus le renommer.

Same issue here. And of course I followed their steps that says factory reset it and retry, but now i cannot even connect it to my Wi-Fi network. If they want us to buy new devices they should allow us to return the completely fine working devices and trade them, for a cheaper price.
