You are 100% responsible for people resetting their device and this will take you out of the hardware scene if not fixed in a day or two. Play the "we do not support" card and watch your hardware become old in stock.

well, since there was no communication I have reset my Chromecast several times and now cannot reconnect to my WiFi. If you cannot solve the problem please let me know what gadget to buy to replace my Chromecast that will work properly and work at the same standard as before

Unfortunately, I followed your help pages which told me to hit the factory reset button (according to comments on Facebook and Reddit, I'm not the only one)...hope there will a fix for this too!

do you trust googlevil to store your data? cancel google drive before you lost really important stuff
03-12-2025 01:42 AM
Dear fiends in misfortune, I'm starting to suspect that google is making fun of us, and that it doesn't want to solve this situation at all. The Chromecast certificate has expired, we have to throw it away and change supplier forever!!

Darn. Really wish I'd seen this info before I did the normal first step of factory resetting the device.
Hopefully you can fix this soon.
Was it some sort of update that went wrong? My devices were working totally fine until 2 days ago.

Manually setting date on my phone prior to March 9th 2025 worked for me. However I was one of many who factory reset, so I hope the fix Google comes back with works!
03-12-2025 01:52 AM
I have the same problem from Mar 9,2025.
Also already factory reset my device.

So a fix is coming, great. But for how long will they be usable? 😳

I did not reset my chromecast, but I did delete it from my House in Google Home. On my TV I do still see the ambient background (Google Images screensaver) and time, but I cannot re-add the chromecast to my House 🤷 I don't get an error message. When it searches for chromecasts it just doesn't show up, so nothing to add (except a chromecast from neighbours every now and then, lol). Is there something I can do? I tried the thing with changing my phone's date back, but it didn't make a difference.
I'm just so glad I still have a dvd player and bluetooth speaker...

I did the exact same thing. Best to wait for an official solution I guess.

Android Authority posted this workaround
03-12-2025 03:50 AM

The delay in resolving this issue is completely unacceptable. Three days and counting is just not good enough for a billion dollar Tech company like Google. Now seriously considering a migration to Amazon Fire stick and Alexa home automation devices.
03-12-2025 03:05 AM
Hi, what should I do if I already did the reset of my chromecast?
Thanks

Is there any news? I made a reset already. So please tell me what I have to do now.
Thanks

Anyone here actually realise that there are several fixes to get your Chromecast....
1* reconnected to the WiFi after a hard reset
2* regain the ability to cast again for Android devices/Chrome browsers
3* change internal debug settings to enable a form of 'root access' and bypass authentication altogether
Do your research people, show initiative and stop sooking on forums wanting attention. I found a solution within 2 minutes of first noticing the issue 2 days ago!!

Yes, I can confirm that the workarounds you mentioned do indeed restore Gen2 casting from Android devices and Chrome browser (sorry, iPhone users). Had mine back up 'n running by Monday morning. Not perfect, but for those who are impatient (and tech-savvy enough), it's a viable option until Google issues a proper certificate fix.
