Streamer is beta hardware/software that should not have been sold in lieu of Chromecast

Before I summarize the numerous issues with this hardware/software I have rebooted, cleared caches, removed apps, rebuilt profiles. This is a seriously flawed hardware/software combination. Current setup is an LG OLED and Bose soundbar through Bluetooth.

Oh Streamer, let me count the ways you are deficient compared to the now-defunct Chromecast:

* Amazon Prime TNF fails: Only video that can't be shown on AP is Thursday Night Football when Bose soundbar is active. Support's answer? "We're working on it." Gave them my number, told them I'd happily experiment with fixes. Crickets. Community's answer? Turn off the soundbar. So the consumer should be forced to find workarounds?

* Failure to return to live TV: Watch a football game from Live list, leave in 2nd quarter with 3 minutes left. Return, turn on TV and Streamer and return to same channel in 2nd quarter with 3 minutes left. HUH? And, if the restarted show overlaps the next the Streamer fails to show the next show on the same channel, freezing at the end of the previous show. Reboot to get live TV again.

* Reboots required: Streamer fails to display menus or live TV list for up to 30 seconds at a time, or goes black, requiring reboot at least 2x a week

* Choices fail to start, pausing, requiring another selection: Select Netflix, pause, nothing. Move side to side, nothing, seemingly frozen. Ten seconds later, Streamer catches up and jumps all over the place.

Hi @lenexa_jayhawk,

Thanks for reaching out to this community! I completely understand your frustration with your Chromecast not working as expected. Reading through your comments, it is clear you have already performed extensive standard maintenance (rebooting, clearing caches, rebuilding profiles), which is great to know, and I agree that you shouldn't have to simply 'turn off' your equipment to make a service work.

However, based on the hardware you are using (LG OLED and Bose Soundbar) and the nature of the glitches (Amazon Prime audio failure and Live TV freezing), there are three distinct configuration changes that go beyond standard troubleshooting.

These steps address how the Streamer 'talks' to your specific TV and Soundbar, which appear to be the root cause of the conflict. Please try these in order:

  • Fix the Amazon Prime/Bose Audio Crash (Force PCM)
    • Instead of turning off your soundbar, we need to change the data format being sent to it so it doesn't choke on the TNF feed.
      • Go to Settings > Display & Sound > Audio.
      • Look for Surround Sound or Digital Audio Format.
      • Change it from "Automatic" to PCM or Stereo.
  • Fix the "Time Freeze" / Return to Live TV (Disable LG SimpLink)
    • The issue where the Streamer wakes up thinking it is still in the past (2nd quarter, 3 mins left) is often caused by a conflict with the TV's control protocol (HDMI-CEC).
      • On your LG TV Remote, go to Settings > General > SimpLink (HDMI-CEC).
      • Turn this OFF.
      • Then, restart the Streamer.
  • Factory Reset
    • You mentioned rebuilding profiles, but if the operating system files themselves are corrupted, only a full reset will fix the recurring lag and black screens.
      • Settings > System > About > Reset > Factory Reset.

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,
Eduardo
