Where to find toggle setting to turn OFF Reactions on Chromecast?

Dizylily

I want to turn OFF the Reactions that keep randomly overlaying video content with party balloons, confetti, thumbs up/down, etc., but I need help locating the ON/OFF toggle setting on my Chromecast with Google TV (HD).

Google internet searches provide different steps for every device/app except Chromecast, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

(Running Android TV Version 12.)

Hi Dizylily,

Thanks for posting. I understand that you want to turn off the reactions on the Chromecast device. Don't worry; help is here. In this case, I just need to ask for some information to provide the best solution:

  • When did this situation start?
  • Do these reactions appear in one app-specific or all the apps?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

The Reactions have been there since I purchased the device over a year ago, however they've become more intrusive over time. Initially it was limited to random thumbs-up/down bubbles, but its accelerated in the past months to include party balloons, confetti, and fireworks.

They appear across all apps.

They appear in both English language and in subtitled dramas.

They even appear in the Chromecast Home banner previews.

They appear in the same videos on my neighbor's Chromecast device, which was purchased half a year after mine.

Appreciate any help you can offer on how to turn them OFF.

Best,

Dizlily

Hi Dizylily,

Thanks for your reply and the information provided. I understand that these reactions are showing up in all your apps and in more than one Chromecast device. In this case, could you please provide a video when this happens while you are using your device?

Please keep me posted.

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

I see the option to insert photos to a message, but how do I attach video here?

Hi Dizylily,

Thanks for your reply and the picture provided. In this case, let's take some steps to try to solve this situation.

From Google TV:

  1. Using your Chromecast Voice Remote, navigate to the upper right of your TV screen settings.
  2. Select System > Restart > Restart.

From the power source:

  1. Unplug the power cable from Chromecast with Google TV.
  2. Leave it unplugged for one minute.
  3. Insert the cable back into Chromecast with Google TV.

After the reset, make the test and let me know if the situation persists.

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,

Jenny

Solved! But resetting and unplugging didn't do the trick. I finally discovered a helper app of sorts that had Reactions running as a setting in the background. Turned that off, and everything's golden. At last!
