Youtube Music and Chromecast Ultra

Terry82

Searched for this topic but found nothing specific to my case.

When I cast Youtube Music to my Chromecast Ultra, I experience severe volume variances between songs, presumably as some sort of volume leveling or dynamic compression. For example, within the same album, track 1 acts as an intro to track 2. Track 1 is an quiet instrumental that crescendos into track 2, but track 2's volume has been significantly reduced. I can't find any way to prevent this auto volume leveling when casting.

Notes:

1. This does not happen when listening directly on a desktop browser or the Youtube Music app - this occurs specifically when casting to my Chromecast Ultra from browser or app.

2. This does not happen when casting using a different app, for example VLC.

3. My Chromecast Ultra is plugged into the HDMI port on my TV and my TV outputs the audio to my AV receiver using passthrough mode. In other words, my TV is not altering the volume, it's passing it straight to the receiver via optical output.

I'd like someone to confirm with me that a) this is a decision Google is making and b) that there's nothing I can do about it. It utterly ruins some of the albums I listen to and I'm so frustrated that I can't find any information about it.

Thanks

Did you read my message? I have clearly shown this to be an issue specific to Chromecast and YouTube music. How is rebooting my router or changing HDMI cables going to help?
