If you're planning to leave the device behind, simply factory reset it:

They would download the Nest app on a phone or tablet, and follow these steps:
Set up Nest Protect with the app - Google Nest Help
It would be handy for them if you made a note of the entry key. The entry key is 6 digits long, located on the back next to the QR code.
