Hi Nest Community,

Earlier today, we announced Gemini for Home, a new Google Home Premium subscription plan, and previewed the new Google Home Speaker. We also introduced three new Nest Cams that are engineered for Gemini for Home1 to bring you more peace of mind - Google Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen), Google Nest Cam Indoor (wired, 3rd gen), and Google Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen). I’m excited to share a closer look and some tips and tricks for our new Nest Cams below.

To recap, we designed the new Nest Cams to deliver the full potential of Gemini's intelligence and to be true AI cameras that can interpret and understand. With a Google Home Premium subscription1  the new cameras:

  • Give you more detailed notifications like “Dog jumps out of playpen” so you know more about what’s happening at home.
  • Enable you to search your video history with Ask Home just by asking something like, “What happened to the vase in the living room?”
  • Help you catch up at a glance with Home Brief, which summarizes hours of footage into a quick summary.

The new Nest Cams also offer built-in features to help you know what’s happening at home:

  • 2K HDR video - our highest video resolution ever
  • Our widest and tallest field of view
  • 6 hours of 10-second event video previews come included
  • Built-in intelligent alerts for people, animals, vehicles, and packages (Nest Doorbell only)
  • Improved low light video and night vision
  • Rated best-in-class for image quality by DXOMARK (2025)

Over the next several days Google Home Premium subscribers with a new Nest Cam Outdoor (2nd gen), Nest Cam Indoor (3rd gen), and Nest Doorbell (3rd gen) will automatically receive an important software update that will enable these new Gemini features.1 This software update could take several days to reach all eligible subscribers. The new Gemini features will come to Google Home Premium subscribers with these new Nest Cams and Doorbell in other supported regions in early 2026.

4. Ask Home about your video history to quickly and easily find important video clips

5. Check out Home Brief for helpful recaps

With a Google Home Premium subscription, you’ll receive a daily push notification in the evening with a summary of the day’s camera events. Open the notification to ask followup questions or see more details, or come back anytime to the Activity tab of the home app to see the most recent summary.1,3

6. Get Familiar Face alerts so you know who’s coming and going

With a Google Home Premium subscription, use familiar face detection to teach your Nest Cam or Doorbell to recognize faces of people that you know.3 Over time, facial recognition becomes more accurate at determining familiar faces and can send you more helpful alerts. You can also manage your familiar faces library in the app, like change a person’s name or delete a face profile.

Whenever your camera recognizes a face, photo snapshots of the person’s face will be saved in the familiar face library. From there, you’ll be able to edit the face profile of each person and manage photos. All home members in the app have access to the familiar face library, and may be able to categorize faces your camera detects.

7. Try Zoom and Crop so you can focus on what matters most.

With Zoom and Crop in the Google Home app, you can zoom in and crop your camera view to stay focused on one important spot, like a garden bed or walkway. You’ll see a high-quality image or video in your live feed and video history.

8. Check out alerts with zoomed in previews

Your Nest Cam or Doorbell can send alerts with zoomed-in video previews of what happened, so you can see the important moment up close.4

9. See what you missed with 6 hours of 10 second event video previews that come included with your Nest Cam and Doorbell

If you miss an alert, check out event video previews with 10-second clips of each event that happened over the past 6 hours.4

10. Thoughtfully designed to help make installation easier for users upgrading from previous generation Nest Cams and Doorbells.

  • The new wired Nest Cam Outdoor (2nd gen) re-uses the existing drilled mounting holes from the previous generation wired Nest Cam Outdoor (1st gen).
    • For users that want to plug their camera into an indoor power outlet, the new wired Nest Cam Outdoor (2nd gen) requires a smaller hole to be drilled (9 mm / 3/8 in) in your wall compared to the previous generation wired Nest Cam Outdoor (1st gen) (26 mm / 1 in) and battery powered Nest Cam (13 mm / 1/2 in) when installed with the optional wired power cable.
  • The new wired Nest Cam Indoor (3rd gen) re-uses the existing drilled wall mounting holes from the previous generation wired Nest Cam Indoor (2nd gen)
  • The new wired Nest Doorbell (3rd gen) is compatible with the Nest Doorbell (2nd gen) backplate, so if you’re upgrading, you can simply swap out the doorbell camera.

The new wired Nest Cam Outdoor (1 pack $149.99, 2 pack $249.99), Nest Cam Indoor ($99.99), and Nest Doorbell ($179.99, available in the US and Canada only) are available now on Google Store and retailers.

Thanks,

Julie, Product Manager, Google Home & Nest
