Google Nest Doorbell (wired) losing wifi connection

rickfert

This past couple weeks I have been having issues with my doorbell camera going offline. I have a Nest wifi router upstairs connected to the modem. I have a nest wifi extender downstairs in the living room. The doorbell camera is at the front door hardwired. There is another camera in the living room. This problem has only recently started. I tried moving the wifi extender closer to the doorbell camera and that didn't change anything. I also tried power cycling the modem, router, and extender. Every time I unplug the doorbell camera from the wall, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in, it will come back online when it powers up. Then it will go offline again in about a minute.

I tried to plug it into the computer and use the home wifi setup but it doesn't recognize it. The ring slowly pulses blue when I do this. If I am trying to watch the feed the green light at the top of the doorbell blinks.

I tried to use my phone to update the wifi connection and it tries to connect and then gives an error of either NC023 or NC004 (4060).

I am not sure what else to do. Nothing has changed until I had to start troubleshooting this issue. I don't understand why it would connect to wifi when restarted and then disconnect almost immediately.

I’m having the same issues, I reset it started to work and then out again. And it will periodically start up and then out again. Have you found any solutions?

No not yet

I’m having the same problem like you. It all started in 13 of November 2023. I was using my Nest Doorbell (1st generation) for 4 years with absolutely no problems. Now out of the blue it’s offline. I’m restarting the doorbell and works perfectly for 2 min and then goes back offline. I will do a factory reset today to see if that corrects the problem. My phone apps and modem/router are all up to date!

Hi everyone,

@rickfert, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. When reconnecting it to your account it will require you to reset it to the factory default.

In case you have the 1st gen of Nest Doorbell, try resetting it with the steps below:

  1. To remove your Nest Doorbell from its base, insert the release tool into the hole at the bottom of your doorbell. You can also use an unfolded paperclip or a thumbtack.
  • Tip: Don't unscrew the wires attached to the back of your camera.

        2. Hold down two buttons on your Nest Doorbell for about 10 seconds:

  • Hold down the reset pin on the back (insert the release tool or paperclip into the hole near the top).
  • At the same time, hold down the big doorbell button on the front.

       3. Your Nest Doorbell will chime and its light ring will start spinning blue, then flash yellow, and then all the lights will turn off. Release the two buttons.

       4. The factory reset is complete when your camera chimes and the light ring starts slowly pulsing blue.

@Meljohnson and @MikeAngelo try the steps above and monitor its behaviour. Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Emerson

Yeah, we all know this.... does not help at all.,

Thank you very much! I have tried everything before contacting you guys here. The problem is that after every reset the camera goes offline again in around 10 min. The camera connects smoothly after the factory reset and works perfectly fine but it always disconnects again. I updated the nest app and still no improvement. I used this camera for 3 years and 9 months without any issues. I think I will buy the 2nd generation wired. Maybe I’m gonna be lucky with that one!

Hello MikeAngelo,

Thanks for getting back to us. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, what is the light status of your Nest Doorbell? How did you perform the reset to factory default? How far is it from your Wi-Fi router?

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Emerson

Nothing you suggests works, based on NUMEROUS complaints on the Net. Ya'll gave a horrible update that needs fixing asap.

Exactly the same with us. 3 years flawless, then BOOM.

I'm having the same issues.  I spent most of my day today running to the door, resetting the doorbell, running upstairs, rebooting my modem, rebooting my signal booster. running back to the door, rinse, repeat, for hours.  The doorbell will connect for a couple of minutes and then crap out again.  I'm really tired of this. I mean REALLY TIRED.  Has anyone gotten this fixed?  The only other thing connected to my wifi is my laptop & my tv. And I have high speed fiber cable internet service.  This is driving me crazy.

The only way I was able to fix it was by throwing it in the garbage and purchasing the second generation wired cam. Now everything works perfectly again! I suspect that was done on purpose by a bug or something. It was totally crazy to go offline out of the blue and that to happen to many others around the same time!!!

100%

I have given up! Last night I purchased a Ring doorbell & indoor camera that was on sale at Costco. Waiting for my son to come and install it for me. I cannot go without a video doorbell as I have a very dangerous neighbor with "issues", and he has threatened me more than one time.  If Nest sees this issue and does nothing, there's no point in me purchasing another round of frustration. I may have my son put the Nest at the back door to see if being 5 feet away from my modem works.

Any update on this? I have exactly the same symptoms as described in this thread. 4 years no issue and all of a sudden, the device has started dropping off the network, not delivering video etc.

The rest of the WiFi devices on the network have no issue, I've dialed all settings back to be as accessible to older WiFi devices as possible and still no luck.

@EmersonB can you please provide an update on the investigation into this issue assuming you have this insight? If not could you point me in the right direction of someone to tag from Google about this please?  Thanks!

Hi SulphurDioxide

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, have you tried the steps shared above? If so, how did it go? Which Nest camera or Nest Doorbell do you have? How far are they from your Wi-Fi router? Try restarting them and let us know how it goes.

Best,

Emerson

I have the same issue.  My doorbell is less that 5ft from my front door. I have factory reset the camera, removed and reinstalled it via the app, reset my routers and modem. Everything that been recommended. I called Nest today to bentold that the version 1 cameras seem to all be having this issue. They refused to provide a replacement as I'm out of warranty by 2 years (I've had my camera for what will be 4 yrs in April) I was told buy new if you want it to work. In addition i was told by thw agent yhst it also failed due to useage. What good is a doorbel camrera if it isnt being used? No good faith for a failed product and I am looking at other options.
