Google Nest doorbell not recording events

Ria1
Community Member

Hi all,

My doorbell isn’t retaining the recording of events. My understanding is that with out a subscription we get 3 hrs in total of recording but mine only seems to retain an event for a short time then it just disappears. I know someone was at my door this morning but when I click on History it says ‘no recorded events’. Can anyone suggest a solution for this please? I’ve just bought a Nest Cam and don’t want to find the same issue as it sort of defeats the purpose!

with thanks.

There are several postings in this forum about these 3 hours. The Google Store says "You get 3 hours of free event video history," but then there's a footnote saying "Up to 3 hours recording" with a link to the same Google Nest Help link I provided above. A customer has to to burrow down into that page to find out the actual performance.

Here are a few other posts from other customers on the 3 hour limit:

A lot of customers seem to have been misled by the promise of "up to 3 hours of event video history" on the new cameras and doorbells. What you actually get without a subscription is this: "photo snapshots of detected activity up to 3 hours in the past." So, if nothing happened in the last 3 hours, you get nothing.  If there was just one 30-second event, that's all you get.  See the fine print here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9681538?hl=en

Thank you for alerting me to this. It’s deceptive because even the salesman who sold me the Nest Cam told me it was 3hrs in total - not 3 hrs in the past!

Disappointing! You really have to burrow down to see this - as you say. Thanks for your clarification of this.

Hi Archie,

Yes my question was  answered- even the salesman told me that it was 3hrs in total so it really is deceptive. I’m now wondering if it’s worth installing the camera or whether I should return it. If I subscribe can I keep the footage for longer than 3 hrs?

thanks

I am glad to hear that your question was answered! It is up to 3 hours total, and depending on which Nest Aware plan you have will depend on how long the footage is saved. Which Nest Aware plan do you have?

Best regards,

Brad

Hi Brad, I don’t subscribe to a plan at the moment but probably would need to do so with the camera if I keep it, as 3 hrs is pretty useless
