So Google updated their nest cams AGAIN and further ruined Night vision, day time HDR got a bit better but nowhere near as good as it was with 1.65 software, I about had it with Google, look at these picture and tell me if I'm imagining things, the picture on top is the new 1.69 software and the one on the bottom is the 1.67 software just a few minutes before the update, look how fuzzy and grainy everything is with the update, it's like everything is out of focus, STOP MESSING WITH THE CAMERAS GOOGLE, we paid money for this, it's literally unusable at night now.

Hey everyone,
We recently began to roll out a software update for Nest Cam (battery), Nest Doorbell (battery), and Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) that addresses an issue where some users experienced decreased video quality when operating in low light environments. This update will be rolling out to all users over the coming weeks.
Best,
Edmond

And i thought i did something wrong with the cameras, Google could have sent out an Email stating they screwed up.
11-17-2023 02:45 AM
Bro, you got a update yet? I've got 7 of these things between 2 houses and all are bad now since last update.
11-17-2023 02:47 AM
Nobody got an update I'm afraid. 😟
11-17-2023 10:07 PM
Thankyou Lance. +1 from me. Floodlight cam in garden is smudge city blur at night now.
11-21-2023 08:16 PM
I’m about to replace my nest with floodlight and outdoor camera with Ring cameras. Between this issue and the piss poor history access, it’s unusable.
11-21-2023 08:52 PM
You guys have been saying this for months already and haven't done anything. I'm giving you guys until the end of November and then I'm taking these cameras down and replacing with a different brand.
11-21-2023 08:55 PM
So it's our fault that Google has bad software and support?
11-21-2023 08:56 PM
I'm talking to Google not you. 😂
11-21-2023 08:58 PM
Haha fair enough. I didn't see you tagged @Lance_L in that. Where you at, Lance? It's been a while..
11-24-2023 06:01 PM
Is there any update on this? I had a security incident last night only to discover this problem.
11-24-2023 08:16 PM
@Lance_L is there any update on this major security concern? These cameras don't have a dirty lens, my friend. It's been a month since you said you were escalating the issue. I have zero problem tagging you on a daily basis until we get an answer. What is there to investigate? The software is broken and night vision is an unusable mess. End of investigation.
11-25-2023 08:21 AM
Lance , what have you found out about this Google problem?
11-26-2023 02:27 PM
Hi Lance, put us out our misery and can we just assume Google don't care and aren't actually going to fix this? Then we can all drop these terrible cameras. Useless.
11-26-2023 02:36 PM
I'm already researching other options. Silence is never a good sign and the Google response has been nonexistent.
11-28-2023 09:32 PM
Has anyone noticed a difference? Mine is still really fuzzy and blurry to the point that I couldn't even use my video for a stolen car at my neighbor's house next door. The quality was embarrassingly bad and it was great before. This was in October.
11-29-2023 04:37 AM
Any updates on this?? My floodlight camera is now even grainy during the day. What's going on here? Started tweaking yesterday, shutting itself off and on...
10-31-2023 03:46 AM
I have the same issue. Even with lights on outside and no night vision.
When is an update or roll back to software that works coming.
Very disappointed.

This is getting unreal. The camera is basically junk because of the quality. I wish I would have known that when I purchased another Nest camera that it was a newer gen and that I had to use google home! My two older gen cameras are PERFECT!

Hello,
I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you are having. Thank you for the pictures of the difference between the cameras. Is the new camera the Google Nest Cam (battery)? I have the same camera and there looks to be something off with yours.
First, could you try cleaning the lens on the camera? There are some detailed instructions on how to do that here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9254377?hl=en#zippy=%2Cnest-cameras
2nd, change the camera resolution to Max in the settings of the camera on the Google Home app to see if that has an improvement.
Another option to try is using the Turn Off setting to temporarily disable the camera and then turn it back on to see if the makes any adjustments.
Lastly, does the camera quality look the same when using your phone, tablet, or web browser at home.google.com?
Let me know if any of those options help, and if you are still seeing issues please reach out.
Brett

It does look the same on my phone. I will clean the lens tomorrow - gotta get out the ladder 🙂
Thanks for your reply!

I think what would help you be more of an expert is if you actually read people's posts instead of the user manual Brett.
11-26-2023 02:39 PM
EXACTLY!!! These canned responses. I did everything mentioned, including unplugging and replugging... I also removed the device and reinstalled it. NOTHING IS WORKING!!!

Brett, why don’t you come over, clean the Lens, turn off night vision, turn it back on, change the camera angle, change the lighting in the viewing angle, move the camera to a different location, delete the app and reinstall, delete the camera and reinstall just to find out you have no idea what’s wrong with it. The people in the google community have told you guys the update made it worse. It’s that simple, figure out what the “expert engineers” changed with the update and fix it. Costumer service here is a joke.
11-13-2023 07:49 AM
Well said that's exactly right
11-13-2023 07:37 AM
I echo what everyone else is saying. Don't waste our time with known useless suggestions, except maybe that one out of a million camera owner that accidentally smeared vaseline on their camera lense.
Real help in the form of a firmware update would be appreciated.

@TechWithBrett If you don't believe us, why not read the media reports?

CLEAN THE LENS, really, what a joke!
10-29-2023 09:58 PM
None of Googles dumb solutions are going to work. There was a months long thread with hundreds of posts about how bad software version 1.67 was and how much worse it got after 1.69 and Google disabled comments for the thread. Their software is trash and they don't want to take accountability for it.
10-29-2023 10:49 PM
Yeah I figured as much. I tried all the troubleshooting and cleaning BS -- quality is still 💩.
Never again.

Sorry to hear that the troubleshooting items and cleaning did not fix the Nest cam quality issue. Let me see if I can get your issue escalated for further support.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for letting us know, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience. We're already on top of this; hang tight. We'll be sharing updates here in the community as soon as we have them.
I appreciate your help, TechWithBrett.

Lance

It's a software issue (temporal and spatial NR going rogue most likely). But there's also an increased amount of noise and not only more noise reduction since 1.69.
Really makes me wondering what's going on here, maybe a lower bitdepth ADC readout mode to save battery life?
11-08-2023 10:16 AM
@Lance_L do you have any update on this issue?
11-18-2023 04:56 PM
Lance, I hope you guys realize some people are using these cameras for the safety of their family’s as well as their own property. WHERE IS THE UPDATE THAT YOU KEEP TELLING US YOU'LL GIVE? If I weren't several hundred or maybe even a thousand dollars in equipment I would toss these paper weights into the trash! There is zero urgency here and it’s clear…. Release a rollback while google searches for a solution and going forward most here would appreciate it if you didn’t force updates onto our equipment! Please update us all with what you are doing to resolve this not your text book reply “our experts are working on this”.
10-30-2023 09:34 AM
Next they will say it’s out of warranty, 💵 you lose.
11-01-2023 02:05 PM
As posted elsewhere on this site I am also having lower quality issues on all my cameras since the update.

Thankfully, I purchased extended warranties on ALL of my Nest cameras. Although it'll be a lot of work to replace them, the company that's going to be really pissed off is Best Buy when they have to return $1,500 worth of used products, especially if that's multiplied by thousands of customers.
10-25-2023 06:15 PM
Anyone else running version 1.69 and have terrible video quality? Both day and night are bad but night is significantly worse. I contacted google after the update and they acted like nothing was wrong and they had heard of no problems.
10-26-2023 12:07 PM
My camera is currently on 1.69 and everything looks normal to me. On other cameras, I have experienced issues after updates and I just had to tap the hamburger menu while viewing the camera and select Turn Off for a minute. Once I turned it back on the video was back to normal.
Let me know if that fixes the issue.
