Nest Cameras Are Constantly Offline

Jim_F

About 2 weeks ago, remote indoor and outdoor Nest cameras I have installed in a home began to constantly go offline. I know this is not a WiFi issue as my Nest thermostat is responsive and always responds immediately. When I called customer support, the representative suggested that the power sources potentially were bad. This seems absurd to me that 2 discreet power sources should fail simultaneously. Also, I do receive images about once or twice a day, so I know the devices are properly powered.  The problem is also not with my phone as the same offline behavior is exhibited on my laptop. I believe a potential software update or App update may be the issue. Is anyone else experiencing these issues? The cameras have been operating normally for over 4 years.......

Yes my Nest service tech mentioned the same possibility tonight, that a software update may be the issue; if I get resolved tomorrow I will let you know!

Well, the simplest explanation would be something with your Wi-Fi network. Other explanations are less plausible, such as failing power sources, failure in multiple camera, or failure in a Google Nest software update (but there don't seem to be reports of that).

Thanks for the post; had the installer back today and he changed the “mount” setting from “other” back to Google magnet mount, which is what they are ( for some reason his experience had been to select “other” mount shen installing Google cameras ?? ). Anyway, he then “reset” each camera ( not sure how he did that ) and they are back working great!!  Let’s hope this is a permanent fix.

Hello everyone,

@Jim_F thanks for reaching out here in the Community. Let's go ahead and see what we can do here. To confirm, what is the light status of your Nest Cameras? Were there any recent changes in your WiFi router settings? Hit this link for more information.

Give these steps a try:

  • Try restarting your Nest Cameras, Wifi router and your mobile phone.
  • In case you're still getting the same issue, you may remove your Nest Cameras from your app and reset them to the factory default then re-add it to your Nest app or Google Home app.
  • Note: After the reset all the recorded events will be deleted as well and there's no way to retrieve them.

Looking forward to your response.

I appreciate your help, MplsCustomer and Richardfoxcpa.

Best,
Emerson
