Nest Doorbell battery stopped sending notifications

zombini316

Over this last month, my wife (iPhone) and myself (Android) have stopped receiving any person detected notifications. We have checked all notifications setting and all are on. This is happening to both of our devices. We're logged in to the correct accounts. Have done all troubleshooting directed on Google Help pages (restarted, reset, deleted and readded, turned all notification settings on and off). We will get one notification after restarting but after that, nothing. Doorbell will ring through to all our Home/Nest devices and phones. But person/movement detection notifications have completely stopped.

Hi there @zombini316,

I'm sorry you're running into this situation with your Nest Doorbell battery. I understand how frustrating it can be when your security system isn't working as expected.

Here are some additional things to consider:

App Notification Settings:

Double-check notification settings within the Google Home app:

  • Open the Google Home app and tap on your Nest doorbell.
  • Go to Settings > Events > Seen Events.
  • Make sure "Your notifications" is turned on specifically for people (and optionally animals, vehicles, or motion).

Check phone notification settings for the Google Home app:

  • General notifications:
    • Go to your phone's Settings.
    • Find the Apps & Notifications section (or similar wording).
    • Locate the Google Home app.
    • Ensure notifications are enabled for the app.

Network Connectivity:

  • Verify that your Nest doorbell is online. A disconnected device can't send notifications. You can check this within the Google Home app by tapping on your doorbell and looking at its status.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany

I did do all that, but it seems now to be working again after factory resetting and re-adding the device. It took about 24 hours after doing that though for it to really start working reliably again.

I am having this same issue starting yesterday morning. When I restart I get one motion notification and then no more. Doorbell alerts work fine. Can see the activity in the app. Never had any issues before. Tried restarting the doorbell, phone, and router but same result. Weird that it took 24 hours for yours to resolve after factory reset. It feels like it’s either an issue with the iOS app or something server side.

Hi there @Kyle32,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I appreciate all your efforts.

Did you try those steps?

  • Review notification settings: Go into the doorbell app's settings and confirm notifications for motion detection are turned on.
  • Check phone notification settings: On your phone, find the settings menu for notifications and make sure the doorbell app is allowed to send them.
  • Restart app and devices: Try closing the doorbell app completely and then reopening it. If that doesn't work, restart your phone and restart your Nest doorbell as well.
  • Reinstall app (if applicable): If the issue persists, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the doorbell app on your phone.

Let me know how it works,

Regards,

Melany
