Hello. My nest camera is mounted on an outside wall. I can put the charging cable out of the window to charge it as I have the security cable attached. When I plug in the charging cable it just says plugged in and does not charge. When I take the camera off the mount it charges. But I put it back on the mount it stops charging again.
Is this how it should be? I'm sure the first time I charged it I was able to while it was on the mount, but I can't figure out why this would have stopped.
Thanks.

Is the USB plug inserted securely and tightly into the bottom of the camera while it is mounted, with the cord feeding towards the FRONT of the camera? There have been a number of posts from customers having problems charging their cameras, and with customers whose USB plugs were faulty or broke. That plug seems a bit fragile and iffy; perhaps the pins are not making sufficient contact, especially since you got it to charge the first time.
It should work; we've had a Google Nest Camera (Battery) for 14 months, plugged in at all times with the optional power cable and it's "Live" at all times, "Plugged in", and the battery stays charged.

Hi, thanks for replying.
The usb plug is inserted correctly. Some info that I can add is that is says plugged in in yellow and displays the battery percentage. As soon as I take the camera off the magnetic mount, it makes a sound, goes white and says charging and the infinity sign comes up. As soon as I put it back on the mount, it goes yellow again and just says plugged in.
This is just a pain as I need to hold it off the mount or unscrew the security cable each time. Then the event area needs twerking after.
It's very much a pain at the moment.

It shouldn't do that. You could try going into settings and change the "mount" to a non-Google mount, in case the cause is something in the camera that is messing up the mounting status, but I don't think that should keep it from charging.
Ours always shows the infinity symbol and it's always mounted.
You could try contacting Support: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp
I think there are things that need some explanation, like:
1) Does the battery camera need to be dismounted in order to charge it with the 3-meter charging cord (even though Google Nest says it's technically the same as the 10-meter power cable).
2) Can the 3-meter charging cord be used to power the battery camera? Google Nest's online help topics say it can.
3) Why is your camera's status light changing to white (indicating charging) when it is DISmounted? Our camera is plugged in all the time and the status light never changes to white that I know of.
4) What does it mean to show "Plugged in" in yellow?

These cams know when they are mounted and won't charge as you'd expect if they are. They only maintain the battery, typically between 70-80% though I've seen mine hit 65%. They must be dismounted to hit 100%. This is so hardwired cams don't destroy their batteries
