Nest doorbel keeps disconnecting from wifi

Wout
Community Member

Hi,

My nest hello doorbel keeps disconnecting/connecting the whole time.

Wifi signal is strong enough and I put my AP on a fixed radio channel to avoid interference. When I remove power from the doorbel, it works for a time, but then suddenly it become disconnected.  It happens at least once every 30 min and connection is restored after typically 3 mins.  Re-initializing the wifi connection did not help.

Hi there,

I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I definitely understand how frustrating your situation must be, and I wanted to make sure that your concern was acknowledged. Which doorbell model do you have? What is an example of your wifi speeds? As well as what other troubleshooting steps have you taken thus far?

Please let me know if you need further assistance!

Best Regards,

Brad.

Hi Brad,

Speedtests I've done:

upload 23Mbps

download 270 Mbps

ModelNest Doorbell (wired)
Serial no.19AA01AE211803WU
Software4110054
MAC18b430eab1e3
IP192.168.0.177

Steps that I already done to solve problem:

- changed the wifi AP to connect to

- change the radio signal to fixed channel to avoid interference with other wifi AP's

- create a specific SSID for the camera exclusively

When removing power from the doorbell, in 90% of the cases the doorbell reconnects, sometimes not.

The only thing I did not yet tried is to do a factory reset, but I'm not sure I can remove the bell from the frame as it can be glued to prevent theft.

In most cases the connection recovers automatically, but not at some times (randomly)

Here an example overview of typical connection/disconnection status:

Hey folks,

Restarting and factory resetting your Google Nest camera or doorbell will have different results:

Restart: Keeps all your settings, and it should reconnect to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever becomes frozen, has trouble reconnecting to the internet, or isn't working normally.

Factory reset: Erases all your settings and options, and restores its factory default settings. It will not automatically reconnect to Wi-Fi and you'll need to set it up again.

You can find this information, plus additional information on this process here. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Hi,

I already know the  difference between  a factory reset and restart.

But it is not normal that the camera is playing jo-jo, connected, not connected and this the whole day.

I wanted to have a solution

@Wout

I am terribly sorry to hear that you are still having this issue! When it comes to your wifi connection, is this a private connection?

Best regards,

Brad.

Hi,

THis wifi connection is a private one. Of course there are other devices connected to the same network, but I have done some tests to see the quality of the wifi at the bell and that is more than good (even added some extra AP to boost up the signal)

@Wout

I have seen cases where having your cam connected to a private network causes issues, whereas having the network as a public but password protected network, tends to work best with our cams. If you can switch your network, and see then please try that and let me know if that works.

Best regards,

Brad.
