Unable to see Nest cameras on Sony Bravia TV

Jdpagent86

I have a new Sony Bravia TV (with Google TV) and just Nest Cameras installed.  Everything works on my phones, PC and Nest Hub.  When I ask Google Assistant to display my cameras, it says streaming cameras but the screen turns gray with a small camera box with an X through it.  This is very frustrating Google - Please Help !!

Wondering if there is a solution for this as I have the same problem

Having the same issue too with my Sony Bravia 65A80CK and a Google Nest Doorbell Wired.  Just shows a grey screen with a camera icon in the middle of the screen with a line though it.  However I have a Chromecast.

I am also facing the same issue.  My TV is Sony KD-65X74K

Hello everyone,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To confirm, what are the steps you've done so far? Try restarting your Nest Cameras and Wifi router. Try updating your Google TV to the latest software version. Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Emerson

My Sony Bravia TV is update to date on it's software.  I restarted both my Wifi router and my Google Nest Gen2 Doorbell (Wired) and it is still not showing on my Sony Bravia Google TV.

Already updated the Sony TV with the latest software/firmware.  The other apps that uses the internet are working as expected.  So I don't think it is an issue with the WiFi router.  Restarting the Google Nest Camera (battery) did not help either.

Seems we’re getting quite a few expressing the same issue, many having tried all the typical “reboot/reset/update” steps typically offered. EmersonB any thoughts on where we go from here?

Done this and it seems so many others have. Is there a solution? An update?

I hate these responses!!!! Fix your own bugs and stop assuming we're all morons like we didn't already do that! A reset is not always the fix, and if it is, who would want to do that all the time???! Not acceptable.

Same issue.  Restarting everything didn't solve it.  Interestingly, my older Nest Cams  (1st gen doorbell, Nest Cam Outdoor) stream fine on my Sony A80K via the Nest App - it's the newer Google Nest cameras (2nd gen doorbell, Indoor/Outdoor Battery) that won't stream and get the grey screen.

Same issue and very frustrating to say the least.  Anyone have a solution for this?

Same exact issue. Bravia x75k. Any solutions yet?

Have looked for any relevant settings and updated all devices. Same issue. It says 'Got it, now streaming...', but all I get is the grey screen with tiny camera icon in the centre. Works fine on any Google TV dongle, but won't work with the Sony X90K.

Same issue here

Had installed nest doorbell wired 2nd gen yesterday and thought i saw that my sony bravia a90j with Google tv should be able to stream it, then the gray screen came up. Tried all the usual troubleshooting steps.

Google - What is going on?

I’m using a Sony 65" X75K BRAVIA LED 4K UHD HDR Google TV and this and a Google Nest camera (2nd gen doorbell, Indoor/Outdoor Battery) linked to my google home account and am signed in onto my google account with the same account on assistant / Google TV and The doorbell.

When I ask Google Assistant to stream my cameras to the Sony TV, the tv initiates the stream of the nest cam and Google Assistant says streaming cameras but the Sony TV screen then turns gray with a small camera icon displayed with an X the in the centre of the screen

I suspect it might be a permissions thing  but don’t know where to set the privacy / security for this on the TV or within Google Assistant

I'm also having this issue. I buy into the google ecosystem and this is how it performs? It's literally a google Bravia tv and instead of fixing this to work they try to sell us the google hub. Pointless wasteful manufacturing of extra junk ppl don't need.

Please reward us for buying into your hardware ecosystem by having your hardware function as expected.

I still don't understand @SP03 . Unless Sony are the ones to fix this in some way, with a possible update to the models not displaying the stream, why then are there instructions on the Google Nest Help page for streaming your camera to a TV? My Sony TV has Chromecast built in, so why doesn't this work? What have I missed? Does the information on the Help page no longer apply?

Stream your security camera on TV using a speaker or display

Cast live video to your TV with your voice, from your Nest camera, or other compatible security camera. Use a Google Nest or Home speaker or display, and Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in.

What you need

  • Compatible security camera
  • Google Nest or Home speaker or display
  • Chromecast or TV with Chromecast built-in

Step 4. Use voice commands to stream your security camera to your TV

To do this:

Say "Ok Google" or "Hey Google," then:

Start stream

"Show [camera name]"

"What's on [camera name]?"

"[Camera name] on [Chromecast device name]"

"Play [camera name] on [Chromecast device name]"

"Show [camera name] on [Chromecast device name]"

Stop stream

"Stop [TV or Chromecast device name]"

@Paddibaz  I don't think you have missed anything and it should be supported as it is a Google TV

I have followed the same steps as you and we both have the same result.

Maybe we do have to wait for a Sony TV update update, I was hoping there was some permissions setting that we could set that would resolve it but havn't found anything

There is some good news / bit of a hack....

Google has introduced a home.google.com portal in preview that offers web viewing for the latest Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell models. You can't watch recorded video, but you can catch the live feed, zoom in and turn cameras on or off.

Go to a web browser (you might need to download this from the app store) on your Sony tv and login to the above portal and you will be able to see your nest cam - I tried on both my laptop and Sony Google TV and worked fine

Thanks for sharing this.  Any recommendations on a good web browser for newer Sony Bravia Google TVs to use?  Ideally one that doesn't need a bunch of peripherals hooked up to work (though I'm not sure how one would  navigate with a basic Bravia Google TV remote).

Pro: Those of us with multiple cameras can watch multiple streams at once (not available without this hack)

Con: no voice control to launch; annoying/inconvenient to go through a web browser

As someone earlier notes, this isn't direct substitute for what Google/Sony themselves advertise that their TVs do....

@2ndShadeau I tested with the logicUI browser and TV Bro on the TV and both worked well - how this helps

Hey I just found another workaround. It seems almost stupidly simple, so forgive me if this has already been suggested.

I'm using chrome home.google.com to view all my cameras at once in a browser tab on my desktop where I do most of my work.. in a blank space on this page, right click, Cast... then choose the TV you want to cast to.   Boom.. all cameras now showing on my tv.

Yes it's a mirror image of that tab and it's dependent on your PC casting the chrome tab.. but it works.

Hope this helps someone.

Yeah this is a good option too 🙌

it also allows those with non google TVs eg Android TVs or any chrome cast  to show a mirror of their chrome tab

I just updated my TV a few days ago, and now I don't even get the grey screen when trying to show my doorbell.

You issue may not be related to your tv software update.  I noticed as of this morning, my camera feeds are not working via home.google.com for any of my Google developed cameras (Wireless cam, gen2 doorbell).  It simply says 'Retry'.  However, my old Nest cameras (outdoor cam, gen1 doorbell) are working fine.  I can see all camera feeds fine in the Google Home app (and Nest app for the aforementioned 2 products), but presumably it's because it's using my local network whereas home.google.com isn't.  This potentially suggests that the camera streaming on Bravia is also using a similar solution as home.google.com streaming uses vs. local network.

The fact that these feeds suddenly are not working is potentially promising, as it may suggest Google is working on a fix - fingers crossed it addresses streaming on Bravia TVs!

Are you using a Sony Bravia TV or some other Google TV / what happens for you now.

Do you know what version it updated to?

Yes, sorry I was one of the initial replies to this above stating I have a Sony Bravia TV.  Not sure the version, but it was whatever the latest was when I posed this; which I'm sure is still the latest.

I'm also having issues with a brand new Sony Bravia, a new nest doorbell and wired camera...

It attempts to stream, but I get the camera with a line through it icon in the middle of the screen.

Did also notice that the home.google.com link no longer streams my cameras on my browser.

@thacheese Regarding the "It attempts to stream, but I get the camera with a line through it icon in the middle of the screen." - I get the same but I can cast from a pc to the TV using home.google.com or use a browser apps on the TV. I just tried home.google.com and it seemed to work ok for me this morning - wonder if anyone else is having these issues?
