Is 3 hours the absolute maximum video history for event capture recordings? If an event occurs while I'm sleeping, when I wake up, there is no record of it or opportunity to download.

For Nest Doorbell 2nd gen (wired), without a Nest Aware subscription, you get up to 3 hours of event video history.

With Nest Aware:
30 days of event video history

With Nest Aware Plus:
Up to 60 days of event video history
Up to 10 days of 24/7 video history

The wording is not entirely clear. Without a subscription, you get event video history for the most recent 3 hours only. If there were just 3 events in those 3 most recent hours, and you have your maximum set to 3 minutes, you would have access to a total of 9 minutes of event video history.

Googke designed it this way to force you to subscribe so you MUST subscibe. Otherwise you have cameras that might as well be used as paper weights.
