Wired Video Doorbell No Longer Working

MarceB1

Hello,

I purchased the Google Wired Video Doorbell approximately 3 years ago.  Just recently it stopped working.  I am able to still see the green light indicating that it getting some power, however the blue circle is not displaying.  I am able to make the doorbell work when I take it off the front door and connect it via USB inside the house.  However when I connect it back to the wires on the front door of the doorbell, it does not work again.  In talking with an electrician that also came over to help troubleshoot, he confirmed that my doorbell wire voltage is receiving at least 16V so the power in the wiring is ok.  Has anyone else had some recent issues with the doorbell no longer working with 16V in  their doorbell wiring?  Is there any support from Google for this type of situation with their device?  I am starting to lean towards switching to Amazon products if this is the expectation for Google products.  Appreciate any help

Sounds like the recharageable battery inside.  2-3 years is about all they seem to last.  There is a big post on here about this.  What does it  do when you switch the internal chime off?

Thanks BurnBabyBurn.  Yeah I think some part of the internal power system has failed.  I did try a new nest wired doorbell and it is back up and running again (my doorbell chime though however is not working anymore so that will be another issue to troubleshoot).  I am interested though in trying out a different brand of a video doorbell (Amazon) to see if it lasts longer than ~2-3 yrs

Thank you yukoncornelius.  I didn't expect a life expectancy for the video doorbell to be 2-3 years and it sounds unfortunately short, especially when it breaks down over the winter and reasonably expensive device compared to it's competitors. I'll search around for the big post that you mentioned, thank you for letting me know.  Unfortunately I am unable to switch the internal chime off as the device does not even connect to my wife and turn on in order to get to the settings.

Omm. my nest hello is the same exact issues & symptoms. is there internal battery that we can replace? did u finally find a solution to fix the issues?. I am also dissappointed why $250 device only last 2 -3 yr.  please share if you find a way to get it to work.  There is no google customer service at all which is horrible with all the product they sell no one can help for issues.

There was no repair that I could find for this other than purchase another video doorbell.  I've read other posts that the first version of this doorbell (which I believe I had) has this known issue which is disappointing.  Additionally, since I am outside of my warranty, there was nothing that a customer support rep could help me with (I was able to connect with one via chat).  I am trying out different brands (such as Amazon) due to this

I have exactly the same problem. I think the 24v AC internal power system is goosed on mine, like yours it powers up on USB. I tested the transformer and it's working fine, so I bought a new nest wired doorbell and it works fine.

You'll have to re link it with your Google account to get the chime to work if I remember rightly, if you're using a Google home/mini as the chime like me.

Hey folks.

I would suggest that if y'all haven't contacted Support yet to look into a replacement option, I would suggest it. It sounds like your Doorbell may have been faulty, or ran into a power issue. Have you tried to Factory Reset the device?

Best regards,

Brad.

Is the internal chime just the chime sound the the operator will hear at the door

It's the doorbell inside your house.

My Nest doorbell just stopped working during a cold snap.  No lights at all to the doorbell indicating no power but when I put my old doorbell back on it worked fine (so power is obviously there).  Our Nest is only a few years old, is that how long they last?  Big price tag for a only few years.

Same here, my Nest Hello just stopped working after 2 years and 3 months. Checked the transformer and it's fine. Very disappointing.

I managed to get a replacement battery for mine from ebay, and yes the wired door bell has a battery, its fine since I replaced it. It's disappointing that google/nest don't offer a refurbishment option seeing as it looks like a common issue. There's a handy video on YouTube that shows you how to dismantle it.

where did you get replacement batter for Nest Hello? can you share instruction link? I am dissappointed w Google support as well for 250 items only last 3 yrs.

Ebay.

Haven't got a link, but as I recall it wasn't hard to find by searching nest hello. It wasn't an instruction video on how to fix it, just how to take it apart and what's inside it.
