Can I add Nest Protect to the Google home app?

As the subject line says, I am wondering if I can include my Nest smoke alarm in my Google home app. Some info on here says no, but it’s on a roadmap for future consideration. Other info provides instructions on how to do this — but in my case at least, they do not work. *Is* there a solution? And if so, what is it please?

Not sure what instructions you're referring to but no Nest Protect cannot currently be added to the Google Home app unfortunately.

When will it be updated? So I still need to use the Nest app only for the fire detector. Seems like a major missed opportunity and potentially the reason why I will get rid of all of the Google products in my house.
My family just needs one app to control everything

I agree when do we need 2 apps for 1 product. Google really dropped the ball here.

There has been zero progress (if so, TELL US!) and no announcements regarding getting these into google home. Years ago, this forum opened a thread that ran several hundred posts over a year asking for any info. Google eventually popped in, made one post "its on the roadmap" then went silent again, with many more comments after before they quietly locked the thread. 

The faster way to get your detectors into google home would be to buy another brand. Don't think i'm allowed to mention competitor brands in here, but in the orange square big box store, there are smart detectors with AQI (air quality) monitoring that have the "works with google home" logo.

ya really regretting purchasing this unit instead of going with my gut and getting the "other brand". FIrst test of the unit last night GF cooking i did not get a notification until 5 min later when i walked into the house and i was in cell network the whole time. when i did get it a little notification popped up and then hid, good thinking their hid the notification and what happened to the full screen notification that was shown on the website.

This is truly disappointing. I've had no or limited issue adding other 3rd party peripherals to Google home (cameras, lights, devices...). Just got a Google nest protect smoke/CO2 detector and can't believe there's no way to add to the Google home app... My nest doorbell camera is there... I'm starting to feel foolish for being Google supporter (phone, home, doorbell, storage...). 

Looking through posts it's been over 2 years for this issue... Is there a plan to address? Or is this off the idea bank?

If there was a plan, Google would have said something. (More than us blowing up a thread for over a year with hundreds of comments for someone to finally pop in and say "its on the roadmap" and promptly disappear again. This was a couple years ago now. It's almost like they said yes like it was a chore their partner kept begging to get done. "Ik ik hun, imma do it tomorrow! For real this time!")

There have been no patch notes, no idea or coming soon posts, no replies to the threads that pop up every week, etc. 

They've started restricting max order qty on thier website too if that's a sign of anything.

I would give feedback with your wallet and return the detector.

I have also been giving up on my gen2 smoke Protect. Google supports tons of devices in their Home app, but not even their own Google Nest Protect, then I would say they are ditching their support and product is EOL. You'll have to continue the Nest app for just only this device, else you do not get any warnings when the alarm goes off. The Google way.. You'll rethink buying another smoke detector next time! It doesn't Matter Google 😎.
If it really would be on their roadmap (as they pretend it would be) , they would have already implemented it. Even a simple Lidl/Action device is much smarter than this Google Smoke detector ... my2c
