Can’t Switch Nest Protects to New Router

Sutra
Community Member

I have 3 wired Nest protects and 2 battery-only nest protects, all 2nd Generation.  I recently upgraded to a new router and I’ve set up a 2.4 ghz connection to use for this purpose.   I set my iPhone and the 2 battery-only nest protects on a table near the router.  When I try to change the Wi-Fi info the phone connects to a nest protect, at least the blue light comes on, but then nothing else happens.

how do I finish the set up?

Hey Sutra,

Thanks for reaching out. If you change your router’s settings, Wi-Fi name or password, or install a new router, you need to update the Wi-Fi information on your Nest Protect.

Tip: If you give your new home network the same network name (SSID) and password as the previous one, your Nest products will automatically reconnect.

1. On the Nest app home screen, tap Settings.

2. Select your Protect.

3. Go to Device options > Wi-Fi connection.

4. Tap Next. Nest will attempt to connect to your Protect, and it will start looking for nearby Wi-Fi networks.

5. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password. Your Protect should automatically reconnect. If it doesn't reconnect, go to Troubleshoot when Nest Protect disconnects or is offline.

Thanks,
Archie

had the same problem, to fix I held down the top button until it factory reset itself. then went to my phone’s wifi settings and turned off auto-join for my regular wifi. hit the top button again and light will turn blue then see if you can see it on your phone as “other networks” if not turn the wifi on your phone off then on again. connect when you see it pop up then start the process to add it to your app. also as a side note when changing your wifi ssid/password for reasons and accidentally breaking all of you iot devices, just recreate the old network on your new/reset router as the “guest network”. this will allow the devices back onto the tnetwork and let you swap them over at your convenience.

Hi there,

hate_iot, thanks for posting and we appreciate your time in providing the Community the steps that resolved connecting your Protect to a new Wi-Fi network — it's a big help.

Sutra, how’s it going? Did you get a chance to try the suggested steps provided by Archie? If so, how did it go? Let us know if you need more help.

Archie, thanks for your help here!
