I cant screw in the backplate for nest protect

I currently have a wired smoke detector snd trying to replace with a battery nest protect. The screws aren’t going in all the way might be some metal plate behind my ceiling. Any alternative solution to this? Can I use double sided tape?

Google would strongly recommend you follow their mounting instructions as the backplate is designed to securely hold this important safety device securely. If you choose to use something else, your mileage may vary and you'll probably find it more difficult to remove it for cleaning or battery replacement etc.
