Nest Protect P024 Error unable to reconnect more than 1 protect

In January my nest protects went offline. I can get only 1 (out of 4) to reconnect. I get a P024 error when I try to connect more than one. These have worked fine with my router and modem configuration for years. I've spent several hours online with google support and they told me after all that time this is a known software glitch with the app and firmware and they would be rolling out an update to fix it. The app updated today and the issue still exists.
I've gone through all the following troubleshooting steps multiple times:

reboot of modem  and router.

reset all nest protects

reinstall app

restart phone

Make sure ipv6 is turned on

Make sure 5Ghz signal is turned off

connect directly to my modem WiFi

Nothing has worked. Has anyone heard if a real fix is on the way? I'm ready to trash everything google and nest and go with different products.

these used to work flawlessly until January.

Hey all,

We have fixed the issue where some Nest Protect users were encountering a P013 or P024 error code.

If your Nest Protect is still paired to your account and just needs to update its Wi-Fi information, that process should now work normally if your device has updated to version 3.6rc8. If your device hasn't been updated to version 3.6rc8, you can trigger a manual update.

If you’ve previously factory reset your devices and removed them from your account you’ll need to pair them back.

We apologize for the inconvenience, thank you for your patience with this.

I had migrated my nest account into my google account a few years ago, so i no longer have a nest sign in. I've been using my google signon for some time now

"Your case has been escalated to our engineering team, and I have received their feedback. Our engineering team is working on an urgent resolution for this issue. We do not have an exact timeframe for resolution at this time, but we are hopeful that an update will be available next week."

Talked to FOUR different "specialists" and no one could solve my issue regarding error message P024(4.8). I got the severe RUN AROUND and no one can really solve this. I am hoping for a solution soon!

I may have an update for everyone...I noticed that the one Protect I was able to connect showed version 3.6rc8 vs 3.6rc6. I decided to add another Protect starting from the rc8 unit and I was able to add another Protect. Now, I am still not able to add my two other wired Protects yet, getting another error but my hope is once the rc6 gets the rc8 update and both are on the same version, I may have more luck. The two connected currently are battery only, no idea if that makes a difference or not but you may want to see if you are running 3.6rc8 and try again, it may work now. I also checked and some of my Nest Thermostats have the new update that came out March 18, 2025. I think that version is 3.5 or something.

UPDATE - They are all working now. This seems to be the fix once and for all.

Upon checking my seven Nest Protect as of March 21, 2025 the firmware has updated to 3.6rc8 from 3.6rc6. I will be testing to see if there are any improvements.

I had one Nest Protect that had fallen off my network. Seems all my others were updated to 3.6rc8, and I successfully reconnected the one just now. Finally!

All of mine had been offline with no ability to get a new firmware. Google fixed something because I just added 7 protects back online. We shall see if they remain stable / online over the next few days,

Since returning online a few hours ago they have stayed online. One of them updated to 3.6rc8, others remain on rc6.

With the firmware upgrade to 3.6rc8 that Google pushed last night, I'm finally able to reconnect my other devices, with the exception one that had a firmware version that was several versions behind. For whatever reason it never even updated to 3.6rc6. As it is very close to it's end of life anyway, I'm just going to replace it. On my way to the google store to pick up the device which I ordered online.
