Hi dust environment (Remodeling and having to replace the sewer lines under the slab) so lots of fine concrete and sheet rock dust. I "forgot" to remove my 3 nest protects. The kitchen one went into emergency mode and the hall and sunroom alerted us like they were supposed to. Both reset normally. The kitchen one has not. Then the Sunroom Smoke & CO2 was inundated by dust just like the kitchen one (my bad). It will not reset. I have followed all the instructions noted in other posts and the batteries have been out of the 3 Smoke & CO2 detectors for weeks. I also listened to the tech support (as best I could) who told me they were probably toast and I needed to buy new ones. These are around 4 years old and have worked flawlessly up until now. I have had smoke alerts before from cooking but they always reset after clearing the air. As expensive as these units are, there should be a way to do a compete reset. I test the batteries before reinstalling and have bought new batteries as well (yes, lithium). When the 2 power up, they immediately go into emergency mode, flashing red. I have them all unpowered, batteries out and they still show Emergency in the nest app. I am guessing these are Gen1. I don't know.

Like other smoke detectors, Nest Protect is quite sensitive to dust. If it keeps going straight to emergency alarm saying there's smoke, that means dust has likely made it into the smoke chamber. Try following the "Clean the smoke chamber" steps listed here.

Followed instruction for 2nd Gen Nest Protect by vacuuming them out. Got one to clear and have reconfigured the two that now work. Back in place. The original one that was dust impacted and set off the alarms, still won't clear. I have taken it further apart and plan to buy a can of compressed air. I will blow it out, vacuum again, and put it back together and see if it will work. Thanks for all the help.

Hey All,
Update on my third Nest Protect. It was the first to get inundated with dust and set off the emergency alert. I have vacuumed it per the above instructions for Gen 2. The emergency alert still goes off. I bought a can of compressed air and blew it out per instructions for Gen 1 just in case. The emergency alert still goes off. With nothing to lose at this point I disassembled the Nest Protect as far as I could without forcing a break. Blowing it out thoroughly, disconnecting a flat cable, letting it set for a while, then putting it back together. The emergency alert still goes off. I am guessing this one is toast.
I appreciate everyone's response. I got nothing from Nest support.
