My son is 6 and loves collecting smoke detectors. Nest protect is at the top of his xmas list. I can't justify spending over $100 for one that he will just store with the rest of his collection. Where can I reach out to find one that doesn't work? Maybe even just the shell of the unit so he can have one in his collection? Not sure where to start on this search ..

That's great that you son likes to collect items. It's always fun to see how things work. I see on eBay that you can buy expired nest protects. A lot of people are selling empty boxes so make sure you are careful when purchasing from them.

I don’t think that Google Nest Protect sensors are included as they use a different sensor, but please be aware that most household smoke detectors contain a radioactive element and should NOT be tampered with.

Another reason to buy Google Nest Protect.
As I thought, Protect does not use radioactive material in the detecting of fires.
