Nest protect for the Google home app

I just set up a nest indoor/outdoor camera. It demanded I migrate to a Google account from nest. The Google home app is nice but it won’t let me port over my nest protect. 

I think Google products should work with Google software.

Can you share more info on that because there's no mandatory migration at this time?

Nest Protect is a product that is currently managed exclusively in the Nest app, unfortunately.

I guess that is hyperbole. But not letting me set up a nest product in the nest app with the rest of my hardware is pretty heavy handed.
