As I've reported a few times recently, my Nest Protect sensor frequently sounds a chirp, blinks yellow and tells me the sensor has failed. After disconnecting the batteries (it is a wireless sensor) and waiting, then reinstalling the batteries, it usually works okay until the next sensor failure warning, usually within a few days. This entire system is less than one year old, please help me resolve this issue.
Thank you,
Chet

Hi chetk,
Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, where did you purchase your Nest Protect? We would recommend you to perform a safety checkup. It's an easy way to verify that your Google Nest Protect sensors, power, Wi-Fi connection, speaker, horn, and light ring are working. You can run a Safety Checkup with the Nest app for a 2nd generation Nest Protect, or press the Nest button on any Nest Protect. Hit this link for more information and let us know how it goes.
Regards,
Emerson

Hi Emerson,
The device was purchased online through Google. This issue of the sensor signaling failure is happening every few days or weeks and then it works okay for a brief period. The sensor is under one year old, I would like to look at getting a replacement under warranty. Please assist me in this.
Thank you.

Hi folks,
Thanks for the follow-up information. Nest Protect's functionality may be affected by dust buildup on either the outside or inside, just like any smoke alarm. As part of regular maintenance, it may be necessary to thoroughly clean both the outside and inside of your Nest Protect.
Clean your Protect according to the instructions. Clean your Nest products.
Please keep us posted.
I appreciate the help, Emerson.
Best,
Jenelyn

Hi Jenelyn_O,
I am still having the same issue, but am waiting for a shipment of new batteries to see if that helps. Please don't close this case out, yet.
Thank you,
Chet

I’m having a similar issue. Nest protect sensor failure. Have already done check, cleaned device and replaced batteries (although old batteries were working fine). Still the chirp and messages continue that there is a sensor failure. What now?
