I keep getting various p error codes, currently p030, when I try to add the device from my nest app on m android. I've tried numerous times but it won't connect. I've tried to manually change the wifi connection to the wifi of the Nest protect device but it won't update it and add it to my account. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem and can't find any information on what P030 means. It's not listed on the official error code page, and the thread linked above leads to a 404 page. I can set up my Next Protect at all, and I've been thru all the settings and prerequisites.

Hi djisti,
I am having the exact same problem as you are. P030 error, two brand new Nest Protects, tried turning off 5GHz, IPv6 enabled, Android client and iOS client app do NOT WORK. So frustrated since there is no P030 error listed anywhere.
Resetting everything in my network did nothing.

Thanks, I believe they've updated their error codes, and this one has since become obsolete or replaced by another code. I've contacted their customer support and managed to resolve it, but I believe the main course is to the nest protect against having to be on the same Wifi network as your router is. Meaning, if you, like me, have a Google/Nest Wifi, then the Nest Protect has to be in the same household with the same user as the other devices (mainly the Wifi); otherwise, it won't recognise it. Also, I learned that Google Workspace is not supported, so you can only use a private Google account (Gmail). The official recommendation was that I should turn off data on the phone when I try to connect the Nest Protect, so you might want to try that as well.

Hi how did you manage to connect your nest protects in the end? I have 2 new ones and still getting PO30 error

I had the same issue, and this is how I solved it. I had previously installed a nest theromostat, and it was trying to use that to "assist" to no avail (P030 error) I removed the thermostat from the app and setup worked just fine. Hope this helps.

How do you set it up without the app?
Bear in mind that the app's constantly getting improved. Since I've written my initial post, some updates to the app might also have helped resolve. Either way, I believe the primary resolution was changing the Google account to a personal one as the business account isn't supported for home devices (which doesn't make a lot of sense, IMHO).

Same, this is what happened to me.
I had previously installed a Nest Protect using the app and it was working just fine. However, when I attempted to add a second Protect, the original device would not assist with setup, thus locking the new device out of the network. I then removed the original device from the app / network entirely, added the new Protect, then had that one assist with re-adding the original.

Thanks for your quick response!
I managed to fix the issue by removing the existing (expired) Nest Protects on my network and turning off the wifi connection from my Nest Thermostats as well, then I added the new Nest Protect to my account and it worked without an assisting device.

This worked for me, thank you! Super frustrating with all the error codes, couldn't get the old / original Nest Protect in the house to help with setup. Just wouldn't connect. Removing it from the Nest app, then adding the new Protect, then re-adding the original Protect did the trick. 🙂

Not to start a rant, but it's pretty apparent that the Nest integration to Google isn't that smooth yet. I also thought it wasn't very pleased that I'd had/have to use the Nest app for managing instead of the Google Home app, which works for the other appliances. But I'm sure it's a question of time until they will make that integration; however, one would have expected that it has been part of the new Nest product since it already has the Google brand.

After reading troubleshooting tips, searching the internet, this is what I did.
Disabled firewall, ipv6 already enabled, enabled multicast
Checked that the temporary network was 2.4 using Wi-Fi analyzer where as the hub was configured for 5g.
Deleted the 5g nest hub max from nest account so the nest protect would stop asking it to help, I had switched the nest hub max to,2.4 but to no avail
Now with no hub help, the nest app on a tablet could work. 2.4
Used an old Leveno that couldn’t connect to my 5g network, dual 2.4/5g router
Leveno on router 2.4 network, 5g still active and supporting other nest hubs
Used nest app on leveno to setup nest protects (3)
Linked nest hub max back to google home
Turned back on firewall
My thinking, nest doesn’t say a nest hub is required for protect devices so get rid of it from the install since it can’t seem to manage 2 networks, one for internet and ad-hoc for protect devices.
Router ASUS ac68u, Merlin wrt 384

oh my god...this is NOT AT ALL helpful....seriously couldn't just make a product that actually works as advertised ?!!
Got 2 nest protects installed, so to speak, and the 3rd, & 4th ones will not install. Absolutely ridiculous the I should have to be able to build a space shuttle to install these. WTF ?! NOT USER FREINDLY and the assist feature worked once...yes , I had all products lined up and ready. Yes, using same wifi signal for all items involved. Beyond this shouldn't be my problem. Get it together Google. Great in concept but lacking in actual functionality !!! Huge MISS !!

I had this problem with all 4 of my Nest protects. The only way I got them to reconnect, was to remove them all from within the app. And then add them one by one, but they each had to be near my Nest Hub Max while adding them through the app. Not sure why, but that was the only way they would connect without an error.

I had this same problem after changin my WIFI. My solution was removing ALL of my Nest Protects from the Nest App and then I was able to add them back one after the other.

Hello dancesonglass,
I know you've made a lot of effort reconnecting your Nest Protect to the Nest App but we're glad that you made it working now. Let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.
Regards,
Emerson
