Same issue here

I looked at the wiring and notice an orange wire plugged into the OB port .. took it out and all is good.. Thats the wire  for a heat pump.. I have a conventional HVAC with gas furnace.. After removing the wire from OB the Nest recognized the correct system setup and its fine.. no condensor running with heat..

Hi Aj1234,

It looks like mjoliver3263 was able to figure things out and posted their steps here. Have you been able to try running through those steps yourself? If so, did they resolved the issue for you as well? If you're still having issues, please let me know and I can help look into things deeper.

Thanks,

Jeff

Well. I thought my problem was solved.. When I turned the AC on the condensor didnt turn on.. but when I replaced the orange wire to the OB port it worked .. Help!.. How can it be a standard system but have 6 wire and wired as a heatpump.. and how do I wire it to where I dont have to keep unplugging the orange wire to have heat without the condensor coming on?

Hi folks,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for the assistance, @Jeff and @Jhonleanmel.

I'd be happy to take a look into this for you, @Aj1234. Could you please tell us more about what's happening? Also, what type of HVAC system do you have?

@mjoliver3263, I'm sorry to hear you're still having issues. Do you mind me asking the make and model of your HVAC unit? Also, please send us a picture of your previous thermostat wiring so we can determine its configuration.

I'll look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Mark

Thanks Mark..Well it turns out I do have a heatpump....Apologies for my ignorance...but I do have a duel fuel system which I also didn't know I had or even existed...Just bought this house a few months ago...So when it first got cold I noticed the condensor turning while the furnace was on..II guess it was cold enough for it to switch to the gas furnace.. I rewired it correctly..All good now...Knowledge is a powerful thing!

Hi mjoliver3263,

Application of knowledge is power — hats off to you! I'm glad that you were able to figure it out by reconfiguring it.

Feel free to let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Best regards,

Mark
