Can't get Google Home app to find new Nest thermostat

Marlise

Pretty frustrated here.  We've replaced our old thermostat with a Nest. It's just the 2 wire model for one zone of oil-fed heat. I never had Google Home but have installed both Home and the Nest apps on my android phone.  The Nest screen only says 'Complete setup in the Google Home app" but Google Home won't go past the Location access screen because it says I'm not allowing Location Permission, although I have!  Several times.  On any screen I can find.  Also, the directions just told us to download the Google Home app and never told us to connect the Nest to our network so how is it ever going to find it?  And we can't get past that 'Complete set up in Google Home...' screen.  The directions that came with the Nest are absolutely horrible.  Can someone help us please?

To confirm, which model of thermostat do you have?

Thanks for replying David.  We've downloaded the Home app to my husband's phone and retried the install.  The app worked on his phone and we learned we need a C wire too.  We're looking for an electrician to install the new thermostat because we believe in people who know what they're doing when it comes to electrical work, lol.  Thanks again.

Hi Edward, Yes I've seen the responses.  I thought I'd responded and said we were having to install a C wire.  Sorry if I didn't keep responding after that.

An update - we had an electrician in, and he couldn't connect the C wire because our boiler doesn't have whatever is needed to attach it.  So, we had to have someone who services our boiler come look at it and give us an estimate of how much it will cost to do the work.  We're waiting for the estimate.  In short - we're still working on it.  Thanks for checking in.  Marlise

Thanks for following up Archie. I'm waiting for the guy who services my boiler to tell me how much it will cost to install whatever the C wire needs to attach to.  Still working on it but at this point we understand our problem and probably don't need further help from this forum. At least for our initial question.

Thanks again!
