Compatibility Checker said my system was compatible, setup says it isn't? Any ideas?

Here is a picture of my wiring--no idea how old the system is but the compatibility checker (which I triple checked before buying a nest) said it WAS compatible. Then, I get the thing in and go into set up and suddenly it says it isn't compatible.... help?? Can I still use it? (I bought the C-wire connector thing as well just in case...)

Let me know,

M

Hi oneforte,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with installing your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do  you have?
  • How did you wire your Nest Thermostat?
  • Were you able to set up the Nest Power Connector?

Looking forward to  your response.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi there,

I ordered the normal Nest Thermostat (not sure if it goes by another name... it is just the standard one. Not the Learning or the new E one or whatever.)

I didn't wire it or do anything with it because when I got to the set up it said simply "Your current wiring is not compatible" so I was at a loss. I was going to immediately bring the nest back, but decided to check if there's a way around this first as I would really like to use it...

Same thing for the power connector--it said you can't set it up until you set up the nest (and I couldn't set up the nest because it wouldn't let me go any further in the nest set up once it said incompatible wiring.)

Let me know if this tells you anything!

Hi oneforte,

Thanks for the response. It's possible that you would need a C wire for your system to be compatible. Can you check if there's any unused wires from the wall? Also, please let us know the model number of your Nest Thermostat.

Thanks,

Edward
