Compatibility check says my system should work with Nest E, but app says no. I can’t find anything describing what I need to do.

Hey AB3kids,
Thanks for reaching out. Could you please share another photo on how your Nest Thermostat is wired? Also, what exact message are you getting in the Nest app?
Thanks,
Jennifer

HI - What do you want to see in another photo? The photo I posted shows the connections to the existing smart - though battery-operated thermostat.
The app simply says "Not compatible" - in direct conflict with their own compatibility checker.
Thanks for any tips -

Hey there,
Perhaps Jennifer would want a clearer photo showing the terminal labels where the wires are connected.
It looks like you have the following:
G- green
W- white
Y- white
R- blue
RC- red
If you do, the only Nest thermostat that will work for you is the Nest Learning Thermostat which has both terminals for R and RC.
Best,
Melba

Melba - Thanks for your reply. I thought the photo was good enough, with my own listing what wires were in the picture. "RC" on the strip was obscured, but the wire has a clear, unambiguous label on it.
Your list of my wires shows Y-white where it should be Y-Yellow.
I guess my next question is what wire(s) from the furnace/AC do I need so the Nest E will be happy? It must work with some combination of wires! The drops from furnace/AC in the wall do have extra wires, and I can trace what they're connected to. But what does the Nest E need?
Thanks in advance - AB3kids

Hey AB3kids,
Thanks for the reply and we're sorry for the delay.
Based on the details for the wiring configuration from Melba, we should follow how it was wired from your old thermostat and not by the color of the wires. Also, by having a wire for R and Rc, your system may be a dual transformer type of HVAC that is only compatible with the Nest Learning Thermostat.

Ryan

Thanks, Ryan, Melba and Jennifer -
In the end, it seems the thermostat Eversource was promoting won't work with our system, where the A/C was added-on and not part of the original heating system.
I guess I could use the Nest E during either summer for cooling, or fall-spring for heating - but not both!
The vendors need to do a better job disclosing these limitations on their too-expensive systems. Their iPhone apps are easy to use, but miss the mark when there are problems.

Hi AB3kids,
Thanks for the reply and we're sorry for the delay.
There are systems that is not compatible with the Nest Thermostat but you can check it with your local HVAC technician or talk to one of our Nest Pro and have your system checked further.
We are also love to hear your feedback to improve our product and services.

Ryan
