Compatible? - Straight Answer - W and R cable only on Current Unit

I have a Honeywell Home unit, which uses a W and R cable hookup. (see attached picture.)

The R is jumpered with the RC cable. (Not sure if that's actually needed with a Nest.)

I have a free standing until downstairs. Nothing in the wall or floor.

Is the Nest actually compatible?

That is a forced air gas furnace and that is fully compatible with an Nest Thermostat.

You original thermostat you are have there is a low voltage thermostat. It works on 24 Volts Alternating Current.  The power arrives at the thermostat on the R wire. You are correct in that the jumper wire between Rc and R will not be needed with a Nest Thermostat.   When a thermostat determine that Heat is needed, it connects the R to the W. The voltage travels on the W wire to the heating system.  This  voltage on W starts the heating cycle.

What type of Heating system do you have? Can you take a picture of it and it’s manufacturer label showing the model number?
