Finding entry key ...?

How to find entry key on Nest learning thermostat?

We moved in two years ago, the Nest was here then after some trial and error  we can operate heating from the thermostat but never managed to link to app as thermostat will not give us an entry key. Previous owner was not that helpful on sale and didn't provide the details ( not just for this) any ideas?

Try these steps:

  1. On the Nest app home screen, tap the Settings cog.
  2. Tap Add product. The app will switch to a camera view to scan the thermostat’s QR code.
  3. To get the QR code, go to your thermostat and press it to open the quick view menu.
  4. Tap the Settings cog.
  5. Turn the ring to select Nest app and press to open it.
  6. Select QR code. Your thermostat will show you a unique QR code to scan with the app.

If you have trouble with these steps, it might still be linked to the account of the previous owner. You'll first need to reset it:

  • On your thermostat, tap the Settings cog > ResetAll Settings

Hey folks,

Appreciate your detailed response, davidking.

Suzanne, I'm chiming in to ensure everything is good here. Have you managed to find your thermostat's entry key?

No I haven't, to be honest I haven't yet dared do the Reset as am quite anxious about how difficult it will be to re-input all the settings and worse whether that might cause some problem which stops the system hot water/heating or boiler working at all

Hey Suzanne,

I understand how you feel. If it makes you feel a little better,I'd suggest to just reset the  Account connection settings of your thermostat instead of All Settings like davidking suggested above. Resetting the Account connection settings will only remove the thermostat from the old owner's account and WiFi network so you will give you the option to see an Entry key and proceed with the setup to your own account. I have just tried...

I did a Reset on the Thermostat and that allowed me to find the Key I attached (again) to the home network. I started the Set-up for an already installed Thermostat but having put in the Key I get a page headed Setup Nest Learning Thermostat followed by Choose the number that matches your thermostat's display there are no numbers (or anything else) displayed to choose from (Thermostat is a 3.4 I know that!) I get a constantly spinning circle. I restarted the Nest and tried again, same result. Any ideas?
