Heatlink distance from boiler

CLW12

Hi please can you help. My heatlinks have been incorrectly installed and there are four of them in a tight square right next to the boiler.

They also should have been hardwired but haven’t been and that will be really hard to retrofit.

So in order to give them each 30cm of clear space and to get two of them closer to the thermostats they serve(therefore not losing connection as often), how far can I move them from the boiler? I’m proposing to take them to the ground floor from the basement, a move up the same wall of approx 4 metres. For the top floor one, which is 15 metres away from the heatlink currently, I could move it up to 10 metres up that wall if it would still work.

Any thoughts grateful received.

Thank you.

Tricky question about how far you can install them apart.

This depends on many factors, and walls are a huge one to get through, not to mention interference from other items in the building. The 30cm is a guide and good practice for heat.

I might be misunderstanding you about distance, but if your talking about how far the Heat Link can be installed away from the boiler, then any distance really. Obviously volt drop will come into play, and size of cable. You mention 4m and 15m away, well that's nothing really so long as you use the correct cable size. 4m is nothing to even worry about.

Silly question, but why were they installed incorrectly, who allowed them to install like that? Can't you get the installer back?

Hello there

thank you very much for taking g the time to help.

fair question on why it was installed incorrectly!!!!!! I’m resigned to sorting it out though, so your advice is very useful.

best wishes. Carole
