House Not Cooling -- Don't Understand What Nest is Doing.

I've got my Nest set for 68*.  It's telling me that it's 73* inside (my thermometer says 75*), but it also says "Cooling Delayed 2.5 hours."  There's almost no cold air coming out of the vents.

What's going on?  How do I get my air conditioning to run? I'm trying to work out of my home, but it's oppressively hot.

Thanks!

Do you have a heat pump or A/C ?

A/c.

  • Im having similar problem w a heat pump.  Only one thing to do…
  • call an AC repair to figure it out.  Good luck..

My A/C works.  It just isn't running, and I think the Nest is turning it off.  Maybe the Nest thinks I'm not home so it turns off the A/C to save $?  How do I figure this out?  Thanks!

  • Im not an expert BUT i can suggest you disable all “ learning” functions of your nest and use it only as a thermostat.  Turn off “eco” etc. , this way you should know if the problem does indeed come from the Nest.
  • You can also call Nest and get more help from customer support for free. Good luck.

Hey all,

Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to follow up and see I could be of any help. I found an article with some troubleshooting steps on strange cooling behavior. Please let me know if that helps, and if you are still having any trouble from here. I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best regards,
Jake

Yes, I responded at the end of the thread here. I think I probably replied in the wrong order but it’s at the bottom of the comments. I’m all set. It wasn’t a Nest issue.

I have the same problem and don’t know what to do. Basically NEST is just executing the commands to blow cold air out!

Did anyone figure out this issue?  Mine has been going into this “2+ Hour” mode and not cooling my home more and more. It eventually works at night. But during the day, for the past 4 days, it won’t cool my house during the day at all. It’s running but says “2+ Hours” and won’t cool down for 12+ hours.

Mist likely the issue is NOT Nest related.

Im no expert but i would try resetting the Nest to eliminate any current settings.  Then only use it as an OFF/ON switch, NO learning, NO eco etc.

If your unit turns on/off but still wont cool the issue is probably not Nest related.

You may need freon or coils cleaned or a number of other things??  If that’s the case then it’s time to call a professional

Thank you for responding. I did a reset the first day that this happened and it seemed to fix it. Then Nest did the same thing the next day. I did what you had suggested, as well.  I turned off all the Nest features. It hasn't helped. I tried another reset today with no luck.

I did just have a professional over to clean the drain line.  There was a clog. He also changed the filter.

The fact that the A/C works at night makes me think that it's a Nest problem. I could be wrong.

I should mention that the drain clog repair happened right before this issue happened.

Is this an AC unit or a Heat Pump?

It's a combo furnace a/c unit. The a/c is what is failing.

Here is a sure way to know if it’s a Nest problem or not…

Buy a new thermostat, ANY brand, and connect it.  IF it solves the problem then your Nest IS bad.  If the problem persists it is an issue w your system.

You can return the new thermostat if the issue is not Nest related.

Take a picture of the wiring and connections before disconnecting and wire the new one the same .

Good luck…

Thank you. That’s a really good idea.

Did it myself, turned out it was NOT my Nest.  Keep us posted…

It turns out that it was not my Nest either. The repair person accidentally leaned on my unit and it became tilted. The water wasn't draining any longer and the unit went into safety shut off. It would still run but not cool. Nothing to do with Nest.

Thanks for the help.
