Is there anyway to do a factory reset on a Nest thermostat if it's not attached to the base?

Hello,

I had a faulty Nest thermostat and so I received a replacement - I need to return the original to Google.  Unfortunately the HVAC guy took it off the base and did not do a factory reset.  Is there anyway to do a factory reset if it's not attached to the base?  Can I just return it without it being reset or do I need to connect it to any base at this point, do a factory reset, then take it off the base and return?  That won't screw up my system will it?

No, unfortunately. You'll need to connect the thermostat to its base to reset it. You'll also want to remove it from the Nest app.
