My Google Nest Temperature Sensors will not link with my Google Nest Thermostat

I have the weirdest question.

I recently purchased a Google Nest Thermostat and the 3-pack of Google Temperature Sensors. After installing the Google Nest Thermostat with the Google Home App, I go to install a temperature sensor and Google Home asks me to install it via the Nest App. I download the Nest App and try to activate my sensors using the QR code in the Nest App and the Nest App tells me I need a Google Nest Thermostat. Since my thermostat was activated through Google Home, Nest App is not detecting it. So I try to add the my Google Nest Thermostat to the Nest App, so I can activate my sensors, and the Nest App kicks me back to Google Home. Where my thermostat is already working. 

What am I missing here? Why can't I just activate my sensors through Google home and bypass the Nest App altogether? Such a pain.
