Nest Thermostat V3 - former owner hasn’t removed device

The former owner of my house has not removed the thermostat form their setup. I cannot use the app. How do I resolve this? From what I’ve seen it cannot be resolved and I may as well toss it in the bin for all the functionality that is now absent. I have no interest in spinning a wheel to control my heating.

reset your Nest thermostat follow these steps:

Press the thermostat face to open the Quick View menu.

Choose the Settings icon.

Turn the ring to Reset and press to select.

Turn the ring to All Settings and press to select.

Nest thermostat reset menu with the all settings option highlighted.

You'll have to confirm you want to proceed. Turn the ring to Reset and press to select.

Turn the ring to move the dial on the screen from the left all the way to the right and press to select OK.

The thermostat will initiate the reset process and show a 10 second countdown in which time you can still stop the procedure if you select Cancel.

Wait a few minutes for the Nest thermostat to be reset.

At this point you may set it up again and add it to your Nest account, just like you did when you first installed it.

The instructions suggested that the unit needed to be removed from the other account first, as though there was some irreversible lock-in if this step wasn’t performed. I will proceed with confidence. Thanks.
