Nest Thermostat wiring for 2 speed forced air gas furnace

I have a two stage gas forced air furnace but No heat pump. On my old Nest E the 1st stage wire was on the W terminal and the O/B wire was for the 2nd stage heating mode on the furnace and everything worked great. On my new Nest I wired everything the same white to 1st stage heating and second stage heating to O/B and now the Nest says I have Electric as my heat source and the blower is running for an extended period of time after the thermostat temp is reached! Also I can’t select gas forced air as my primary heating source instead it shows my heating source to be Electric? Is my Nest defective or do I need to change my wiring connections? This is what I currently have: Y = cooling  stage; W = heat (1st stage); C = common; R = 24V supply; G = circulating blower; O/B = heat (2nd stage)

Can you post a picture of your current Nest backplate show the wires attached? Keep this in mind, if your new thermostat is a learning thermostat that you have a W1 and a W2/AUX. In that case, your second stage heat would go in the W2/AUX and not OB. You can go to SETTINGS>EQUIPMENT>CONTINUE>CONTINUE>PRO SETUP>CONTINUE.  The go to the OB wedge, select it, and change its function to 2nd Stage Heat. Go to the W1 wedge and again select it. Change it function to Gas and Forced Air.  Choose DONE and DONE.

Thanks for the reply. I gave up on trying to get the new Nest thermostat on my 2 stage forced air gas furnace and installed a Nest Thermostat E. Also I did attach my 2nd stage wire to the OB terminal and reprogrammed it for my 2nd stage. Going to the Nest Thermostat E solved my problems. Apparently the simple Nest model isn’t designed for two stage gas forced air furnaces!

@BPL

When you installed your new Google Nest Thermostat using the Google Home app, Which wires did you tell the app you had?

Based on what you have said I would suggest that you select these.

W/W1, Y/Y1, G/G1, R, W2, and C
