Nest Thermostat

I just bought a thermostat. It has connections for 6 wires. My heat pump has seven. I have a Y2 wire, my new thermostat does not. Will this one work?

Well, this depends, if the Y2 wire was in your old thermostat, then we need it for the Nest. Now, some heat pumps use a Y2 signal wire to let the indoor unit know that the outdoor heat pump has entered a defrost cycle. It is not necessary to have it at the thermostat unless the outdoor unit has a 2-stage compressor. I can look this up for you but I will need a picture of the manufacturer label on the outdoor unit and the same for the indoor unit. Now the thermostat you need is a Nest Learning Thermostat 2nd or 3rd Generation. The one you have does not support 2-stages of cooling.
