My Nest thermostat is going thru batteries every three weeks. A/C tech has checked C wire twice. Wire is connected. Any suggestions?

Hi Sgauchet,

Thanks for reaching out and we're sorry to hear about what's happening.

I'd like to check a couple of things for us to further isolate the issue. Let's check the battery status by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Status. C wire connectivity can also be checked on the Google Home app by going to Settings > Equipment  > Wiring info. Here, we can check if the C wire is really detected by your thermostat.

Also, the recommended battery for your Nest thermostat is a AAA 1.5 V alkaline battery such as Energizer AAA 1.5 V Alkaline Battery.

I hope it helps,

Ryan

Batteries only lasting a couple of days now that the A/C is running more often. Could there be a problem with the Nest thermostat? What is the warranty ? At this point I will go back to a dumb thermostat. At least the batteries last a couple of years in them.

The battery problem seems to be corrected. The problem now is even though the nest is connected to our wi-fi it won’t always stay connected to google. I just restarted the nest and it would not connect to google site.

Hey Rockery,

Thanks for the update.

It's great to hear that your Nest Thermostat is back online. Let's check what's going on and why it seems to be dropping out of your internet.

Are you getting any message from the screen whenever it is not connected to your internet? How far is the Nest Thermostat from your Wi-Fi router? Do you have any other electronic devices near it?

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan

thanks for checking. The battery problem has pretty much corrected it self. Thermostat will not always stay connected to my iPhone. It will go offline but when I check it at the thermostat it tells me connected to wi fi connection good. Not connected to google server. I restart thermostat and it reconnects to my phone. That is not a problem if I am at home but if I am not at home I can’t change temperature.

Hi Izzydojo,

Thank you for your posting.

Give these steps a whirl:

Ensure that the wires are connected properly
Remove the thermostat display from its base and check if any connector pins are bent.
If the issue persists, contact a pro installer to discuss your options.

Keep us posted.

Best,
Mel

My Google nest thermostat is still having problems. I have had to change batteries twice in the last two months. When I tried to adjust the temperature from my phone the app said offline. I went I to the thermostat and checked the wi-fi and it was connected and the signal was “strong”. Checked the battery and on the thermostat said “good”. Google server said “ not connected”. Had to restart the thermostat to get connected to server. To me this thermostat is a dumb thermostat my a smart one. I am the and if my rope. The wire connection has been checked by a HVAC company and when the problem reoccurred they came out a second theme and replaced the wires completely from the thermostat to the HVAC system. My thoughts are to truly correct the problem I will purchase a different and Truly smart thermostat from a different manufacturer.
