I’m trying to find a nest thermostat that will be compatible with my wiring. I have a picture but can’t upload it for some reason. Can someone help me with this? I have R, W1, W2, Y, G, O, B wires.

Hello Crockrellpot,

I'm glad to hear that you're looking to upgrade to a Nest Thermostat. Based on the wires you mentioned (R, W1, W2, Y, G, O, B), it appears you have a conventional heating and cooling system with multiple stages for heating (W1 and W2) and possibly a heat pump (O, B). Here's a general guide for connecting these wires to a Nest thermostat:

  • The R or Rh terminal on the Nest Thermostat. This wire provides power
  • The W1 terminal. It controls the first stage of heating.
  • If you have a second stage of heating, connect this to the W2 terminal on the Nest.
  • The Y terminal. It controls the cooling.
  • The G terminal. It controls the fan.
  • The O/B terminal. If you have a heat pump, it controls the reversing valve during cooling.
  • The B wire on your thermostat is connected to the C terminal on the Nest Thermostat. This provides additional power to your thermostat.

Remember, it's crucial to turn off the power to your HVAC system before making any wiring changes. If you're uncertain or uncomfortable with the installation, I'd suggest consulting with a professional HVAC technician.
