Nest thermostat connects to Google Home app, but does not work with Google Assistant app.

My thermostat has always been connected to my google home app successfully. Never had a problem. Recently, I started messing around with Shortcuts on my iPhone, and to use my Nest, I need to use Google Assistant app on my iPhone. However, when I give commands via the Google Assistant app, it says "Sorry, I'm not sure which thermostat you'd like to control."

Of note, I have lights and other devices linked to my Google Home that DO work when I use Google Assistant. It seems to only be the Nest Thermostat that doesn't want to work. I have tried deleting and re-adding to my Google Home account to no avail.

Thanks for being ahead of us in trying to make your Nest Thermostat work with voice commands again. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

To be sure, were you able to control your thermostat in the Google Home app itself? Which Nest Thermostat do you have? Also, restarting your thermostat by going to its settings or pulling out its batteries helped to refresh it. Once refreshed, try the commands available here in this article with some troubleshooting steps for using Google Assistant with Nest products.
