Hi,
Will nest thermostat gen 4 work without W cable? (I have no hearing function anyway)
I have R Y G and do not need fan speed control (it's fixed speed system).
I also do not necessary need on / off FAN. It can stay on as long as the thermostat controls the compressor.
Thanks

good news, it worked!
so in summary I have a very old HVAC system with stranded wires (I simply extanded them to solid coper), jumped wires (R and RC) and no C cable but it worked
Nest E pro
purchased a 24V adaptor acting as C wire
plugged the R, G, Y wires to Nest
plugged the adaptor 2 cables : one in C and one together with R wire

What about model E or Gen 3. Based on some videos I found looks like those 2 will work but not gen 4. Can anyone please confirm?
Thanks

Thanks for asking.
I am almost there.. I installed and it's working expect that it's not charging probably due to missing c wire. I will try to plug one of those 24v adaptor to simulate c wire.
Based on the pic I shared and usage of adaptor for c wire do you think other nest thermostat version than E pro will work as well? Which ones?

I am not aware of a Gen4. As an HVAC contractor, I tend to sell Nest E Learning thermostats and Gen 3 Nest Learning Thermostats. Sometimes consumers aren’t looking for the advanced learning features, and I will steer them towards the Nest Thermostat. As long as you go with a Nest Learning thermostat or a Nest E Learning thermostat, you can use the Nest app or the Google home app. If you go with the basic Nest thermostat, it only works with the Google Home app. Other than that any model you get that meets the needs of your system will be fine. If you have multiple heating stages or multiple coolings stages, you will need a learning type thermostat.
To see which works with your system, use the Google Nest Compatibility checker. you will need to look at your current thermostat wires and input which terminal letters wires are attached to. The compatibility checker will then make a determination as to which thermostat options are going to be available to you. I hope this helps you, make sure to add Kudo. If my answer solves your question, be sure to mark it as Recommended Answer.

Hey Anthokr,
If you are able to install a C wire, you would then be able to use any of the Nest Thermostat devices. If you do not have a C wire installed, the Nest Learning Thermostat, or the Nest Thermostat E would be the best option for you.

Jake

Thanks..I received the c wire 24v adaptator but it's unfortunatly not . working as I expected. I will try one more time tomorrow to connect the adaptor on C and R and keep the hvac system on R as well.

Another problem you have is your wires are stranded wires an the nest backplate is not compatible with stranded wire cables. A proper HVAC thermostat cable is comprised of 18-gage solid copper conductor wires. You contact an HVAC company and have them install a new thermostat cable with 5 or 7 conductors.
