Nest thermostat message "delayed for...minutes"

tim7

While the heat is on, I sometimes get a message on the Nest thermostat display "Delayed for [x minutes and seconds, counting down]."  What does this mean? Does it indicate a malfunction?

NOTE: I couldn't find any topic addressing this in Support.

We are having the same issue but I can't find any information about what this means. I've found some sites that say the nest thermostat could be underpowered and the battery is not fully charged. But it would be nice to have some information from Google re what this notification means.

I have the same message - and the same questions as above.  My thermostat is not low on power (3.92V) and I have the commoin wire installed as well.  Ho[pefully, there will be an answer.

I am having the same issue and it only happens when I turn the AC on. The heater works fine. The delay keeps adding time too.

Came here to find an answer to the same issue. I would like to know if it is a normal function (albeit a new one I’ve never seen before) or if it’s a malfunction or flag that something is not working properly.

I am having the same issue and can't find any help with it either. Battery has plenty of voltage. But this is happening multiple times a day which is causing my boiler to partially heat and then cool down so it is just wasting oil.

I am having the same issue. The internet consistently says this is due to the C wire not being connected, but when I check the battery in the thermostat by going to Technical Info -> Power, it reads 3.811 V. So, it must be getting power from the C wire successfully.

We installed this a year ago and just noticed this behavior recently. Any help from a Google rep or anyone would be much appreciated.  I investigated this because of a huge jump in our heating costs that I now believe is due to this malfunction. So, I need to deal with this ASAP.

For anyone that may be following this thread, there was a solution offered on another thread to remove your nest from your account, perform a factory reset, then re-add. I have started by simply restarting the thermostat to see if I can get it to snap out of this unruly behavior. So far it seems to have worked. (Thread linked below.)

Same issue for my AC. It would turn on for 30seconds then stop and go onto a 2min countdown cycle. I tried to do a factor reset many times which worked and AC would run normally but the very next time it would do the annoying cycle thing. What seems to be the issue for me is if I set the temperature to cool down any more then 2-3 degrees below the room temp it would cause the issue. If I set at 1-2 below room temp it worked! A little annoying as I have to slowly adjust as the room gets cooler but not as much as the delay cycle thing. Hope it helps!

Same issue as others.  It keeps recycling a countdown.  Does not start the furnace

Still no resolutions is there a technician we can call to have come out

I ended up doing a factory reset of the device and it solved the problem. Oddly enough an hour on the phone with customer service this was never suggested and they told me I had to contact a heating professional.
