Nest thermostat not compatible?

Espressolover

I'm replacing my Trane thermostat (3.5-ton heat pump) with a Nest, I've 5 wires: R, Y, B, W, G.  Following the Home app, it initially told me the G wire was not detected, I left the B wire unhooked when I tried it, only got heat from the air handler, no-way could I get cooling. I hooked up the B wire with the same results. At that point, I gave up and reinstalled the old thermostat. Any help is really appreciated.

Thank you

John

Hey there Espressolover,

Just out of curiosity, when you connected your Nest Thermostat, did you remove the jumper wire? If so, were you using a C wire or a Nest Power Connector with your Nest Thermostat? It's a possibility either the wires weren't seated properly, or perhaps the Thermostat wasn't receiving enough power to the unit.

I look forward to your response!

Thank you,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,

Yes, I did remove the jumper wire. I installed my wires to the Nest Connector: each individual wire, B to B, G to G, Y to Y, and R to R. The B or blue wire left it off, I also tried connecting it to C and *OB of the Nest connector, and the result was in Cooling mode I was having Heat, and I was actually never able to get cold air even though the Nest was in the cooling mode. I have a 3.5-ton Trane Heat Pump. Thank you for your help

@Espressolover, thanks for posting a photo of your current thermostat's wiring. I'd love to know more about this. Could you also share a photo of the control board of your HVAC system?

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward, I have the next best thing: the thermostat schematic. IMG_2282.jpeg
