I have had a Nest thermostat for 2 months now, today it stopped recording when it is running in the energy dashboard, and activity log. The thermostat is working fine, I can still control it from my app, I have tried to restart and factory reset the Nest thermostat and it hasn’t helped my issue. Any advice?

Hello folks,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and I'm sorry for the delay in responding. We're aware of the energy history not showing and the constant heat display on the app. Rest assured, we're actively investigating it.
A possible cause for it might be related to the thermostat shutting down due to a power loss or if a hard restart has been performed. This could potentially lead to a data issue.
In the meantime, please let our product team know about this by sharing your feedback in the app and continuing to monitor the dashboard. If you have anything more to share about the app's recent behavior, let us know.
Best regards,
Mark

Relieved to see it's not just me. Noticed the same issue with my thermostat

Same issue on mine in NC. Checked this morning and still no heat data being shown!!

Don’t worry and definitely do not reset your thermostats. It seems like it’s catching upon and Google /nest might be using some queuing mechanism which might have either broke or is slow and catching up. Yesterday I saw data till noon and now I see till night.

Same here. I see data till 8pm

Glad I found this thread. Having the same problem with my nest as of 4p yesterday. After that time it was showing that my nest was running non-stop from 5p-8p. I manually restarted my nest at the thermostat and those hours went to 0 which is also not correct. I see as of this morning that nothing has updated between 4p and now, just showing 0 runtime. This has to be server-end issue.
My nest is definitely responding to commands.
I restarted mine because it said 'offline' when I got home, so I assumed that's why it was showing 100% runtimes while it had lost communication. That doesn't appear to be the case.

Happening to me too. I'm guessing since so many of us are reporting this in the last few hours that this is likely due to a recent software / firmware update. In my case, yesterday afternoon I was seeing 0 orange bars despite my heat definitely running. I cleared cache, storage, and reinstalled the app, and all of a sudden it showed the correct usage... But only for the hours between 4 and 8 pm last night. Beyond that, the dashboard is now showing continuous 11 hours of use from 9pm last night to present (currently 8am). I'll mess with it when I get home tonight but I suspect we might just have to wait for another update 😡

I have has the same issues!

I am having the same issue since yesterday.. The dashboard was showing that the heating was running 100% and it was not.. I reseted the Thermostat (lost all my data) and then the opposite happened, the heat would turn on and it would not show up... Since everyone is having this problem, i guess its a Nest software issue. @Nest

Wow, glad I found my way to this thread via Google search! My unit is experiencing all these issues, very confusing to say the least.

Same issue. Initially this morning it showed 5 hours straight of heat which I know was incorrect. Then it disappeared and now shows no tracking even though my heat is on. I reset thermostat and it did not work. Come on Google please provide update on what is going on.

Mine started updating a bit ago. Should be just a matter of time until it's fixed. I just checked my dashboard and it's all up-to-date now. You can try clearing your cache in your app. If it's Android, just go into settings, apps, then find the 'Home' app and there should be a storage tab if you scroll down. if you choose cache you can clear that then re-open the app and see if that helps you.

Yes, all you had to do was wait. I did a restart yesterday, even if I didn’t think it would do anything, but it is Google after all… Not a big fan.

Mine is now caught up till 6 AM EST. So please don’t reset and be patient. I am still upset that no one from nest/ Google even cared updating their customers of the issue.
01-23-2024 09:13 AM
How did you fix this issue
01-23-2024 09:32 AM
I didn’t do anything. All we will need to do is wait for it to catch up. It could take a while though

Happened to me too on Sunday around noon. It either show zero usage or full hour continuous usage. I have 2 nest thermostats and both are working the same way. Somebody goofed.

My data for yesterday got restored from noon till midnight. Just received a 'Home' app update on my phone (android) but after the update today's recording which was empty earlier shows continuous usage from morning 8 am till now while in reality I had switched off the furnace after 9 am. No idea why it's not fixed even after the app update but will wait for now.

Hello Community,
Earlier today, I noticed that the Energy Dashboard for my Nest Learning Thermostat is reporting 100% heat usage (i.e., always on), which is not accurate. I am standing in front of the thermostat and when the system is not actively heating, the Google Home app still counts this downtime as heat usage.
I have installed the latest iOS versions of the Nest app, Google Home app, as well as confirmed that the Nest Learning Thermostat software is up to date. In addition, I have restarted the Nest Learning Thermostat and uninstalled/reinstalled the iOS versions of the Nest app and Google Home app. Despite these actions, the Google Home app still shows incorrect Heat usage.
Are there any other recommendations to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.

I think this is what happened with me as well just now. I noticed in Nest App that my it has not stopped heating for past 4 hours which is not true. Then I tried to set a different temperature in Nest app and it worked. But now, it is showing usage is 0m for all past 5 hours and the new heating happening is not updating in the app.

Glad I checked here! So far, I've seen two other posts in the last hour describing this issue and I am experiencing the same thing. My heat has been off for at least two hours, but my Home energy dashboard is saying the heat has been on during that time and is continuing to rack up the time as we speak, when the heat is off.

My heat is coming on and off as expected and heating the house as per my nest schedule. However, the nest hourly report on some of my thermostats is inaccurately reporting the heat as having been switched on non stop. I've even turned the thermostat off, and it's still logging the minutes as the heat having been switched on. I've tried clearing cache, restarting phone, and no effect. Any ideas?

I see the same behavior now. It was empty earlier and now it’s full bars

It seems to be a server issue affecting everyone. It's been happening since 12 pm est.
01-22-2024 05:19 PM
Mine is doing the same thing. Shows a full hour since noon today.
01-22-2024 05:28 PM
Same here, since noon. Glad it's not just me. I was worried. Guessing it's just a server error then.
