I need an alert when there is a power outage and my furnace will not be able to run. I have a UPS on my internet so WiFi will be available.
Will neat thermostat use its battery to stay on and alert me on power outages?

Hmm. Interesting question. I'm not sure a Nest thermostat will tell you if there is a power outage. It may eventually have an error code related to low or no power. It will operate on batteries, but minimally and I think when on battery it disables Wi-Fi. However a power outage is not a thermostat or furnace only problem. Your UPS may be able to notify you. Certainly it knows once power is cut. You can also get a device similar to a smart plug that will notify on power outage. The point being your thermostat may not be the best smart device in your house to alert on a power outage.
If your furnace has a service shut off switch or a dedicated circuit breaker, turn it off and see what the thermostat does. My guess is that it will not alert on your phone, but I am curious. Let us know what happens.

Hey folks,
Thanks for your inputs, sporfrog.
Reza96, sporfrog is right. I'm afraid that our Nest thermostats don't have the ability to send out power outage notifications. However, we're always on the lookout for ways to improve so we'll take this as feedback.
