My nest learning thermostat keeps restarting, it says to preserve battery. But it is connected to mains power. Any ideas why this is happening and how to resolve this ?

Hi Katie8,

Yikes! Sorry to hear about that — let me take a look at this for you.

A few questions: are you located in North America or Europe? Were there any recent power outages or service work in your home? Is there a light on the display? Also, follow these steps:

  1. By any chance that you are still able to view your Nest Learning Thermostat's settings, gather its Battery, VOC, VIN, and lIN under its Settings > Technical Info > Power.
  2. Remove the thermostat display from its base and check if any connector pins are bent.
  3. Ensure that the wires are connected properly.
  4. If restarting still occurs, I recommend you charge the thermostat via a micro-USB cable, plug the thermostat’s display into a power outlet, and leave it plugged in for 10 minutes then let us know how it goes.

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe
